Recently acquired this rifle. Bushmaster M4, 16" heavy profile barrel, floated front grip, collapsable stock. My biggest question is--what load to run in it. I shoot a Rem 700 in .308 already, have all the reloading components for .308,, just wondering if the AR is going to be finiky? My purpose for this rifle will be all encompassing. If I need to kill it--this one is most likely the one to do it. Also while on the question of "Bushmasters"--are their mags specific, or will they take a p-mag or some such variation.
Thanks
G

i have a bushmaster also you can run the .308 threw it with no problem,
i myself use the 7.62x51. and i bought 3 p-mags for it and have had no problems.

You should be able to shoot any factory .308 load that will fit in the mag. If you want the best accuracy, you will just have to experiment and see which gives you the best groups. Yes, the Bushmaster .308s take 7.62 P-mags.

I got the Busmaster .308 OCR recently (might be same rifle), yes, Pmags work and so far my best results have been with 165 grain factory loads, I tried 180 grain and 150 grain also. the 16" barrel might make it a bit more finicky, dont know yet, gonna do some more experminting and even try a different scope or 2.

do they seriously call their 308win, free float, H-bar an "M4"?? geez

My mistake- this is what they call it. The M4 designation was in the "ad" when purchasing it. The poly hand guard has been replaced with an alum. free float. None of this having anything to do with my original question of: what has anyone that actually owns one, found to be a good cartridge weight, and do they have any feeding problems. This one also has forward assist and dust cover.

The only difference between the bolt gun and the gas gun is that on the gas gun, you might have to cater to the gas system. You don't want it short stroking or beating the heck out of the rifle.

The only problem that you MIGHT have with loading for both is that shooting the brass through the gas gun MAY ruin the brass for your bolt gun. It may not chamber in the bolt gun, even after full length sizing. It will depend on how tight the chamber is on your bolt gun. At worst, you'll have to segregate the brass.

The BM 7.62 AR well like 150 to 175 gr loads. It well also like quality 150gr surplus for general plinking. Early Bushmasters used inch FAL mags and late BM's use SR-25 mags.
