I rented a 629 at the range today to empty some 44 mag rounds so I'd have brass to reload for my '92 lever....

Everyone there stopped as soon as I started firing and came over to watch... :D

Are you set on the 629, or are you looking at different makes? I realize that it is hard to beat a Smith when it comes to most revolvers, but I just love Colt Anacondas. They are beautiful and look mean as all get out. For sheer ruggedness though it's hard to find anything tougher than a Super Redhawk. In fact, I will be taking the SRH when I leave for the St. Mary's mountains tomorrow for bear!

You Gotta love the 44 Magnum!

I have had several 44's over the years,S&W-Dan Wesson-Ruger,Blackhawk & Redhawk-Desert Eagle-Taurus. All were great guns, but after I got my Taurus Raging Bull 8 3/8" 44 mag I sold all the others because it was the only one I ever shot. I do want to get another S&W Performance Center 44 mag, they are nice guns.

Yeah, me too... that's a lot of pennies to save tho :) Me, I'd like to have a sidearm to take hunting in case I have to dispatch a deer or elk. Less than 44 mag isn't legal for hunting so...

I'd rather have a Ruger (blackhawk, super redhawk, SRH, whatever) as they seem to be very very very well regarded but would not turn down a 629 or Colt. But have read a lot of negativity about Taurus... ???

My big challenge after saving spare change is finding an affordable deal.

Michael

Unless you're talking about a state different than the one you live in (CO), .44 is not the minimum for handgun hunting. Has to have a 4" barrel, be at least .24 caliber (6mm) and produce 550 ft. lbs. at 50 yards. Lots of handguns below .44 will fill that bill. I've not heard of any other state that limits handguns to .44 or bigger, either.

What did they watch?

Really what did the mass of range lemmings expect while circling your area?

Did you score more 7-10 ring hits on the fifty foot nra bullseye target? or did you dance better then the next shooter?

If you have access to an indoor range that allows black powder, try a black powder .44.

Two handguns have attracted attention when I've shot them indoors: a SBH 10.5" .44 Mag and a .44 BP revolver.

Hello Everyone! I own and have owned several 44 mags. Bought, sold, traded most.

So far I been sticking to Rugers, SBH, RH & SRH. My favorite is Bisley Hunter and plain RedHawk.

I had a SW 6" barrel, I thought the pistol was to little for a 44 mag as compared to RH 6".

I also own a Herter's 44 SA nice shooter but a bit to much kick when shoot hunting loads.

I choice any Ruger SA or DA revolver.

Need a .44?

I have two and would share.... 44MAG1.gif

This one's barely been fired and though it came with the lock the lock parts are in the little baggie that holds the key to the lock....in other words - no lock, just a little keyhole.

Gotta' like the full lug for extra weight, and personally I think 3" is too short for the magnum loads. Everybody I've known with stubby .44's shot .44 Special exclusively after firing a cylinder of magnums. It's too strong for little wee-wees. :)

Speaking of BP .44's - the last time I fired mine the recoil caused the cap to fall off the adjacent cylinder and I got two for one! Major poof of smoke and a quick doublefire.

Really exciting, puzzling, and lucky that the one that did the AD was the cylinder lined with the capping/loading cutouts so the ball didn't disintegrate in my hand. It went who knows where off to my right.

Make sure your caps are tight!!

Those are so nice, Ron. I keep on the verge of buying a Marlin model with a long octagon barrel in a pistol caliber or in .45/70.

There's my Rossi that I got for $200... :)

There's a ruger super redhawk in 44 mag at my local gun store for $399...

I love my vaquero's, so I was thinking about it. Seems like a good deal. Stainless with wood grips, 6" barrel.

I need a 5" 629 Classic just like yours above. Full underlug and everything.

I mean really need it. Like a crackhead needs a hit. Gawd, that's revolver perfection right there.

I am hooked!

I just had to have a S&W 44 Mag as well.... Finally got one. A 29-3 with 6 inch barrel in blue. The gun looks almost new! When I saw it in my local gun shop, it just had to come with me.

Everyone needs a big bore revolver!

Well I scratched the itch.... 7 1/2' barrel Redhawk 44 mag...
