Really what did the mass of range lemmings expect while circling your area?

Did you score more 7-10 ring hits on the fifty foot nra bullseye target? or did you dance better then the next shooter?

Why just today I shot a 78 on a 50 foot B-33 NRA bullseye target... from 50 yards.

Boy do I love my 629.

I just bought this one, Smith and Wesson Performance center 629 Carry Comp I pick it up tuesday,

Damn! I have the itch too. Actually 5 itches ... but I need some more C-notes to scratch with..

if your not against single action, my ruger super new model blakhawk is the best thing in the world. when i was first lookin at 44's, i ruled out single action, but just lookin at the blackhawk made me want one. i love it. also, when i ever i shoot double actions, i notice that i cock it the majority of the time anyway. it a real nice durable gun, accurate as anything.

For any other caliber I'd say that the time needed with a SA to dump the empties one at a time and then load through the gate one at a time would be annoying. Certainly with the .22, 38Spl and 357 Mag revolvers I've shot this would be my feeling. However when you're shooting the big 44 Mag I'd see this as a far more Zen like practice. Like the ceremony of the Japanese tea service the considerate loading and unloading of these Kings of Kartridges SHOULD be done with due reverence so an SA with it's one at a time clearing and loading would be very appropriate and respectful.

I've never shot the lower and more curved SA style "western" grip but someone at the range the other day was saying that the curve is actually an advantage since it does let the gun rotate in your grip a little and thus soften the sting of the big hit cartridges. Is this the case?

I shot my first cylinder of .44Mag from a Model 29 the other night. The dried up old hard Pachymeyer grips were TERRIBLE in both surface texture and size so the gun tended to shift badly in my grip while firing and stung the web of my hand twice. But it still generated a heap of grins and now I need a .44 to play with various moderate "plinking" reloads ("plinking" with a .44 Magnum seems a bit oxymoron'ish... :D) and also to wow both myself and any bystanders with some slow burn but still powerful "flashbang" reloads. You .44 Mag reloaders know what I'm talkin' 'bout. The sort of rounds that make you crave blue rare steak after the shooting session.... :D

I have four. Three S&W M-29s and a Winchester Carbine. I'm not sure you can ever have too many .44 Magnums.

Respectfully,

DarkSoldier

You know... I think I may be developing a problem...

Is it normal to buy a new gun every other week? I haven't even gotten the Redhawk dirty enough to clean it and I've picked up a 629...

Seems normal to me... :D
In the past month I bought a Taurus 445 .44 special snubby, a RIA Match 1911, and a High Standard Compact Crusader 1911... and holsters for all... and brass for reloading them... and dies for the press...

Yep... perfectly normal.

FoMoGo - What holster did you choose for your Taurus 445, 44spl? I bought one in November myself.

Now that is said and done, great choices for you first .44 Mags.
You will soon see the need for a Ruger Alaskan like Mainsail and I have.

I joined the .44 Magnum club this year with two purchases. The first purchase was identical to mavracer's purchase in post #4. The second I purchased a few months later was a Ruger Bisley Vaquero.

Both are fun to shoot. I have to admit quickly emptying the cylinder of the 3" Model 29 shooting 325 grain Hornady custom loads was a bit daunting...although not as daunting to the shooter as the one being shot at I suspect!

matt_s07,

Take a look at http://www.simplyrugged.com/ for a quality holster for that Taurus .44 special.

Just a quick comment and FYI.

Moosehunt said in an earlier post that the .44 was not the bottom limit for hunting, however in Wyoming (unless it has changed in the last year or two) the .41 mag is the bottom limit. Many, including myself, have argued that other calibers should be allowed, but the last I knew, for handguns it was .40+ caliber and 500 ft. lbs at 100 yds. In rifles, the .243 was minimum, but handgun cartridges, even in rifles, had to fit the handgun rule, so the .357 is not legal. I personally know of several instances where people were cited for finishing big game with a small caliber weapon.

I honestly need to find out.
It is a holster that I picked up for my wifes GP100... but was a little tight for it.

Rondog - Awesome picture! I got the .44-itch a while ago. I was originally looking for a pre-owned Ruger Redhawk, but came across a very reasonably priced Taurus .44. The only complaint on the Taurus are the grips being too slim for my bear paws - easily solvable.

the smith 44. is a good revolver but u can't go wrong with a ruger blackhawk in my opinion

SAA`s

As you can see these weapons have seen some use, Hands and bolts have been cleaned up and cylinder notches peened, But they are just as good as the day they were made.
The heavy silver plate mitigates holster wear.
I wanted to take one too combat when I was 17, A LA Patten. But reason won out and I wore a modified 1911. I did bring it back.
Romance is dead if we are not willing to risk these in the endeavor that they were made to do.
As you can see, the 1911 shoots better.
