I took my HD gun (which at the moment is my only gun) out just to put some rounds through it and my friend and I did a little clay shooting (manual throw) for fun. Problem was, I didn't know how much fun it would be, now I'm hooked.

So I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a barrel length and choke that would be good for skeet, trap and possibly pheasant. I don't see myself shooting deer or turkey or anything else.

Is there one barrel length and choke compromise that would do an adequate job at skeet, trap and pheasant? If pheasant throws it for too much of a loop, something that worked well for skeet and trap would be fine.

What brand of gun do you have? I like 26 inch barrels for all three activities. A 26 inch pump gun is very close in length to a 28 inch o/u or sxs.

Based on your previous post, I will venture you have a NEF Pardner Protector?

Here is the part # and price listed on H&R's website, give them a ring and buy it directly from the manufacturer. I only saw the 28" listed and it will do all you want and more. Just remember for some types of bird hunting you will need a 3 shot limiter plug.

Thanks orphanedcowboy, that's a huge help. And you're correct, I have a Pardner Protector, and while shooting clays with an 18.5" barrel is fun... it's less than ideal. After snooping around their website that does look like my best, possibly only, option.
Though after shipping and a $20 charge to fit the barrel (a complete joke considering it's a drop-fit), I might just put in another $40 and buy a dedicated skeet/trap Pardner.
Thanks everyone for the info.

28" is the generic barrel length, and what I'd recommend.

Trap and Skeet are quite different, but a 28" with choke tubes should cover them both.

Another vote for 28" with screw in chokes you'll be able to shoot skeet and trap with it a good compromise.

Barrels and choke

For skeet 28" barrel is OK choke is skeet or IC. For trap 30 to 32 inch barrel choke is Full or Improved Modified. I am not familial with you gun. I don't know if it is a double or not if it is the trap would be Full and Modified. European full choke not American full. When I got my Beretta the full barrel patterned 90% and the Modified 80%. It was was a 28" gun and the barrels were to short for trap.
