I need a poster made for my NRA classes and I don't have the ability to do it myself. Here's what I need. If anyone here is interested in helping, let me know.

I need a graphic showing the different types of bullets in loaded cartridges. I'm thinking to use .38 Special as the "example" round for each type. The dimensions don't have to be perfect, as long it "it looks about right."

Imagine the cartridges are set up upright on a counter at eye level and you are looking at them straight on.

I'd need cartridges loaded with: Wadcutter, Semi-Wadcutter, Hollow point (lead), Full Metal Jacket, Jacketed Soft Point and Jacketed Hollow point.

Ideally, I'd like the cartridges to be "cut away" about 1/3 so you can see how far the bullet goes into the case, where the propellent is, and where the primer is.

I'd need labels leading to the case, the jacket (for FMJ, SP, JHP), the lead core, the primer and the propellent.

The pictures can be based on photos or entirely computer generated. Whatever, as long as you can tell what they are. Heck, hand drawn would be fine, if they looked good.

I could draw a simple diagram of what I'm looking for, take a pic of it with my Digicam (no scanner) and post it if that would help.

Anyone up for this? I'd like it as a file I could take to Kinko's and print out poster sized (smallish poster) for my class.

I'll attempt it as soon as I get some time off work. I should be able to generate the cartridges in SoftImage XSI, but it will take some time, and I don't have a whoel lot fo that right now... so I guess I'm saying, if no one picks this up in about a week, I'll hop on it!

Time is not pressing on this right now. My next class isn't until June. But, I didn't want to wait until the last minute to ask.

Thanks Max. The picture from the Remington site at the link is very close to what I need. I like the 3/4 view where you can see the case on either side of the "sectioned" areas. The differences I need are:

1. I need the bullet sectioned as well. The students need to see the inner core for the jacketed rounds (JHP, SP, FMJ).

2. I need one complete cartridge example for each of the bullet types: Wadcutter, Semi-Wadcutter (lead), Hollow Point (lead), Full Metal Jacket, Jacketed Soft Point and Jacketed Hollow Point.

3. I need to have the "jacket" and "core" labelled on the bullets. I don't need the "crimp" or "rim" labelled.

If anyone is curious, this is for my NRA Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home classes. There are a couple questions on the tests where the students need to identy bullet types based on written descriptions and the students consistently have problems with those questions. We can't have live ammo in the classroom, so a poster is the best visual aid I can come up with.

Here's the link to the Remington site with the sectioned round pic:

I'm here... Still thinking :) Feel free to shoot me an email, [email protected]. I'm lacking time to sit down on the comptuer right now, but I can probably churn out some worksheets for you with photos of cartridges and sectioned cartidges with blanks to ID the parts. Coming up with every caliber in full and sectioned view, while not really difficult, is going to be quite time consuming. Just email me, we'll figure out what you need, and I'll hook you up.

Trebor - what we do in our courses is - use the issued NRA posters but also - have some sample stuff which is prepared for display by mounting on stiff card backing and shrink-wrapped.

This has meant we can have displays covering brass types, bullet types, powder types .. and these are passed round the students. It works very well and is safe.
