I handled a Chinese AK47 for the first time the other day. I was under the impression that original AK47s had a floating firing pin. This model most certainly had a spring loaded firing pin. I am assuming that this rifle was actually a later model AKM as opposed to an authentic AK47. Are the firing pins different between the AK47s and the AKMs???

I have a Chinese mAK-90. It has a spring-loaded firing pin. I've been able to inspect about 5 other AK-type guns. All of those were free-floating.

My Norinco 84S is spring-loaded, my Romanian SAR-1 is free floating. I'm guessing that model AND country AND date of manufacture have a bearing in whether or not the pin is free-floating. While I do own a few AKs, I am by no means an expert.

Duh, otherwise I could have given a more specific answer
