I obeyed the White House request today

Yep, explained to my wife why the scope I wanted to buy cost more than the one on sale at Bass Pro. We got into some ballistics discussion and she said she didn't care. I ordered the other scope from Gander Mountain for twenty bucks off with free shipping. Code GMT5 if you like.

Gun control is an extremely divisive subject. I can't imagine why you'd bring it up at Thanksgiving unless you just wanted to provoke a fight.

But our government leaders asked us to.

But, yes, it can be divisive. I hate those fights, especially if I admit I switched from Pachmyer to Hogue. The factions in favor of one over the other are fanatic.

Yup the wife and I discussed proper gun control, site alignment/picture, two handed firm grip, shot placement, and everything else that goes with it. Unfortunately she does not want to use the firearms I already have and thinks she needs all her own firearms.

After eating, my son and I strolled out to the gun room and I gave him a nice 1911A1 I picked up last week, a handful of mags, and a case of ammo. He's good for the winter.

I sure did, but not with my family. I had a chat with the folks I picked up at the airport who were returning from a mission trip to El Salvador. One guy is SF so he called out a few weapons he saw in use by guards and police. Everyone else was nervous about the guns being around, especially when the majority were full auto carbines like m4 or AK type guns. The SF guy said he could tell it was no problem by the attitudes the guys had, and I explained to the carload that in the US, people are allowed to carry legally if permitted so there are likely more guns around than they realize, but that is the beauty of concealed. I explained it as this...if your given a box of chocolates, and you know they all taste good that you are comfortable eating until you are full. If you get that same box and at least one candy in the box is laced with plenty of laxative then you get really nervous about eating, and you likely won't eat at all. They understood this pretty well and it translated really well to the chocolate eater being a thief, rapist, murderer who might bite into more than he bargained for. I pushed it a bit further and explained that beyond the concealed carry folks, weapons in general keep groups from running your life how they see fit, be it government, gangs, etc. As long as a man can fight back he has freedom. That didn't carry as well, but I think they got the point.

The only time I have personally seen an anti gun person change there view on the topic is when they have personally been faced with the harsh reality that there are those who will do violence to them and there is no way to talk their way out of it or doing what is told still results in violence happening to them. I can't think of anything at the dinner table would happen to make this situation occur.

Discussions are not what the current administration wants. They want their way, they want everyone to see their way as the "right way".

If Obama wanted discussion, he wouldn't constantly publicly denounce those who disagree with him using his one sided press conference platform.

The current administration wants INDOCTRINATION of US residents into the anti-gun mindset. They want children telling doctors that their parents own guns. They want those doctors to scare the parents into divesting themselves of all their guns. They want everyone to blame the NRA for every atrocity and claim that only the pro 2A side of the argument has influential Special Interest groups.

Luckily no one in my family is anti-gun and they all loathe the current administration's heavy handed scare tactics, so we can discuss guns at family get togethers by denouncing gun control.

This Morning I talked with my kids to remind them that when school discussion turns to the California shootings or where ever to not mention Dad's ,Mom's, brother's or sister's guns in any way shape or form.

Don't need a bunch of middle and high school kids knowing our hose is full of goodies when those are the age groups most likely to do afternoon home break ins.

Also don't want tales that may grow with the telling.

As to Eating With The Enemy, first disagreeing with me does not make folks my enemy, second my son's vice principal two years back seated me at the thanksgiving fiest at his school across the table from mister and misses Anti Gun Liberals and their kids.....she said later, just to see what happened. We had a nice lunch, talked about the kids schooling and left all smiling, the topic of 2AMd came up once and we agreed to disagree and that was it.

Maybe next time we might discuss it with out the kids and other innocents around that may have had their dinner spoiled.

The first sign of a sick society is a lack of politeness in general affairs.
