I finally convinced my girlfriend to try my 1911 at the range yesterday with some reduced-power reloads I had. She shot better than I did, and she loved it!

I was the first to introduce her to shooting handguns; took her to the range with me any time I went and rented whatever she wanted to try:

Her first was a 2" .22 revolver
Next came a Bersa Thunder .380
Then a CZ 85 Combat
She tried a G21, but didn't like it at all
Tried some .38's out of a .357 I had, didn't like it
Tried the 1911 with some +P loads (all I had at the time), didn't like that
She got pretty decent with my FEG .32, but it's a bit small

She was convinced she wanted a 9mm. Now she won't even touch the .32 "It's too small, I want the .45!!!!"

Yesterday we went through close to 200 rounds with the .45, and about 100 for the .32. She definitely out-shot me with the 1911, landing 8 times the 2" X-ring hits (range was 25 feet)! I'm not an exceptional shot, but it looks like we found something she can shoot very well!

Now I just need to get a second 1911 for her. Mine is a SA Mil-Spec (not the GI), and will probably look for something with similar features.

Below is a photo of our targets; hers were the bottom. We shared the top right (that was for the .32).

When I take someone to the range who hasn't shot much or hasn't shot a handgun, they almost all prefer a 1911 by the time they have sampled the handguns I have brought.

For a new shooter I always make sure I pack a 1911 full size in 9mm. I pack all the other 9's and some .45's . They get an assortment of HK's to CZ's a Glock, and a few revolvers. But as far as centerfire goes, the 1911 is just easy to shoot.

She literally instantly because a .45-snob yesterday!

I loaded up a magazine for the .32 and asked if she wanted to shoot it.... she literally didn't want to have anything to do with anything that doesn't start with 4 and end in 5. I was already asked today when I was going to reload some more.

Good lesson to what can happen if you poke the bear.

You are looking at this wrong.
Give her your 1911 since she likes it so much and then you get to go get YOU what you want.

I like mine the way it is. The SS looks good; but I want a shooter, not a looker.

If I could find another SA Mil-Spec for the price I paid for mine, I'd jump on it. I bought mine for $475 "used". It had maybe a couple magazines through it. No visible wear at all on it. I sold my Taurus .357 and never looked back

The only thing I've done to my 1911 was a stiffer recoil spring and some Hogue finger-groove grips. I'd consider a RIA Tactical, but I like my 3-dot sights and arched MSH. I'm probably gonna just keep an eye out at the local gun shops and pawn shops for something that catches my eye.
