I finally paid off my model 65-5 today and got to pick it up. It is a police trade in round butt 65-5 with a 3" barrell. I think it must of been a reserve gun and I don't think it was ever issued. I came in the box (matching serial number) and doesn't hardly look fired. Nice trigger and feels good in the hand. I got a houge bantam grip to go on it because the stock wood seems a little small. Locks up tight. Here are some pictures.

Here is the forcing cone. No flame cutting at all.

Here are more pictures if your want to look.

I paid $288 out the door. What do you guys think?

Thats a very nice clean looking revolver. The 3" barrel length is really cool to.When you add the largers grips, post a few pics. Thanks and best of luck with it

Very nice!

Do you know if they ever received the second shipment? I left my phone number with Clark after calling several times. He said he would call me when the next group arrived. Having not heard from him I forgot all about it. Now seeing yours my interest is aroused once again.

I asked about the next shipment. They said they were still supposed to get some more in but the arrival date is not know right now. If I hear when they get in I will Post.

The price that you paid is EXCELLENT!

I paid $350 for mine and got a non-matching box. Still consider it a bargain given what other handguns go for these days and the quality and capability that resonates from it. I did sell a Model 10-5 as a result of getting the Model 65. So, maybe I should subtract the money I got from the sale from the $350. Yea, that's a good way to think about it.

You got a very good deal IMHO.

Congrats!

A 3" barrel is just the right size for a revolver. I don't know why S&W doesn't make more of them. All the K & L frames seem to be 4" or 2 & 1/2" these days . Not enough 3". Got my wife a 3" 65 LS a few years ago. What a great revolver it is.

Nice gun. Looks to be about the same, or maybe just a smidgen nicer, then the 3" 65-5 I bought a couple months back. The new 65-5 is going to replace my 65-3 3" as my carry gun as soon as a fire it a little more to confirm POA/POI and general reliability. The 65-3 will then go to S&W for some repair and custom work. The 65-3 runs fine, but has some "issues" that should be addressed.

I bought a PR PD trade-in from Centerfire Systems last year, an '88 vintage 3" 65-3. The price was excellent (~$219), the revolver wasn't - at least cosmetically. Operationally, it was super. Some white rouge and a buffer, along with some Flitz and wipes, and it looks much better. It came in a shipping box - with worn-out rubber grips. It looks like a $300-$350 gun now... that type of 'trade-in' makes a fine PD or CCW. It stays stoked with Remington R38S12 158gr +P LHPSWC's, with which it shoots an inch or so low at 12 yd. Yours looks great... good buy.

Stainz: Funny you should mention your 65-3.... I bought one of those too from Centerfire last year. Looked like it had been used at times for a wheel chock :D but the action is tight, the trigger feels great and it shoots well. I've got a pair of Jerry Michelek(sp?) grips on it I got from Brownnells and it's been my only CCW all year. Concealing the square butt has been a problem at times. IIRC I paid $209 which included free shipping...... a bargin at any rate :)

Dharts pics have me looking into digital cameras... :)

Due to ssteven1's tip I called the next day after he bought his and ordered a pair of the best out of the five they had left.
Clark, their shop manager was very helpfull and took good care of me, $269.95 each and about $35 to ship them both. (He lurks here...so if your reading this another big thankyou for your help :) )
I received both of mine about a week ago but due to prior committments I have not had a chance to range test/ clean/ detail them yet. I also don't have a camera just yet so I can't post any pics. They do look great though and both seem to be in very good shape. I also got both boxes that they came in along with the factory grips which look great. I'll know more after I test them but so far I am very pleased, life is sweeeet!! :D

Have to agree with rWt. I think you got an awesome deal on a fine gun.

I have been searching the shows and shops for either a 13 or 65 3". The ones I have found so far look like they have been drug down the road a few times with prices always above $300.

Great find, my search continues.

The corners of the box look a little messed up and your gun seems to be a little shiny. Even if you did pay way to much $288 I'm willing to take it off your hands for what you paid.

Just kidding looks great and you got a steal at $288. Wish I had one.
