I saw a tan colored T-120 at a gunstore so after a bit of fondling, I decided to put it in layaway to eventually be used as my "under the pillow gun".

Sure, I could put a lot of money into it fixing it up to shoot better, but I'm not gonna. I'm going to stick my tactical light on it and change out the plastic grips for a Hogue wrap around, . . . and that's it. If I HAD to use a gun, I'd hate for one of my CZ pistols being gone for awhile [perhaps nearly forever].

Good idea? Bad idea? Chime in now. I've only put one payment in on it, so let me know what you think.

Caniks have a good reputation, they're cheap and they will do the job.
While my first choice would not to use an expensive or otherwise valuable gun in a self-defense situation, were I to find myself in such a situation, I think I'd default to what was most quickly available .... priorities are different under pressure.
In any case when it come to self defense planning ahead is always smart.

I think I'm paying a bit more than I should be. I think I could probably get it for less at Academy,. . . . . but the place I'm getting it at is a smaller store [and relatively new business] with guys I've known for several years. I kind of look at it as "paying it forward" to them.

Well, the "layaway" won't last long. . . . . . I'm getting it out today.

I had a TriStar T-100 that I liked a lot. It was a good shooter at the range, and I never had any sort of failure. I traded it for something I liked better, but it was absolutely not because of its quality. The fit & finish were really very good for that price range.

I have a Tristar T100 that works great. Finish seems thin. Shoots a couple inches low at 15 yards and the front sight is already short. It's my first CZ clone. Despite the sight issue, I like it.

I have CZ's and love them, but I hear good things about the TriStar and Canik. Sounds like a good idea. I use a much cheaper pistol for defense for a variety of reasons. Go for it.

I plan on taking it to the range this morning to see how it shoots.

I'll post something about it later.

A buddy of mine got a Canik a couple months ago, the one that looks like the Baby Eagle, and he's loving it. I've fired it too, and it's a sweet little unit, accurate, nice trigger, and I don't believe it's had a single hiccup.

I'll post pics of my targets later.

It shot fine [shot 100 rounds of the Aluminum case Federals]. A bit to the left though [did this even when in a rest]. I'll get it to my gunsmith to tap the rear sight a bit.

It was a soft shooter, as one would expect. I got the Hogue wrap around put on it before taking it to the range. A very nice feeling gun.

The trigger pull is quite heavy in DA. The SA trigger pull is okay, but still a bit heavy, which caused a bit wider grouping than I would get with my CZ P-09. For what it is, though, . . . a cheaper home defense gun, . . . I think it is quite acceptable. I'll put another 50 rounds [Perfecta] through perhaps after work this afternoon.

I think, with a bit of dry firing, the SA is getting a bit better. A slow pull is allowing the front sight to stay on whatever I'm pointing it at pretty well. I suspect the trigger to continue to improve as more dry firing and range trips are done.

And I'm still going to post pics, just haven't gotten the time to get them uploaded to post.

Here are three target from the first outing. Not all that great, but I'm learning the new gun. These are at 7 yards:

I have the Tristar P-120. Great gun! I put a spring kit in mine from Cajun Gun works. The trigger on mine is sweet. It has some travel (in SA) and then a crisp break.

I prep the trigger on mine, I let the trigger out just till the click and its ready to fire again. I got grips from CZ and a sight kit from CGW with a FO front sight.

Good luck with yours!

The idea of mine was "a cheaper house gun", . . . but who knows if I end up at CGW's site to get some upgrades. It already has a great recoil impulse, but there is a bit too much slack/travel on SA. . . where the sear and hammer connect. I may have to upgrade the sights as well. Some type of tritium, I suppose. I plan on putting a few more rounds through it over the weekend. :)
