Not a fan. Doesn't look like you did a bad job though. I just think Mosins should either be restored or kept the same. Call me a purist, but I don't care for modification on Mosins in any regard but adding the proper scope mount and a PE/PU optic.

If you like it, that's all that matters!

Also, where did you purchase your stripper clips and have you had good luck with them?

Actually bought the stripper clips on amazon. First time I used them I sliced my thumb open so I wear gloves when shooting it now. The clips work and fed the rounds fine just sharp so I have to be careful with them.

Got a link for them? Ouch! What part of the clip got you? Maybe use a dremel and file them down just a tad.

I've heard that most of them are terrible and don't work very well at all.

I like the quote, if you like it I like it. What I do like, is the passion that Mosin's inspire, even the canonical ones.

You know what it is time for now?
.... a PINK Mosin.

Nooooooooooooo! It is too big. The only acceptable pink guns are the little 22s that look like a 4 year old could carry them.

My shoulder is still sore from shooting my M44 yesterday. Note to self: wear a heavy jacket when shooting that gun even if it is warm outside. My 91/30 doesn't kick 1/2 as bad.

My wife's cousin and I came close to doing this with one mentioned here that had a cracked stock. We were going to Kalashnakitty it for his wife but decided against it for the time being. The idea is still on the table, however.

I tried a pack of strippers with the little keepers stamped into them and sliced my thumb as well, then I picked up a pack of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-MOSIN-NAG...402?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a71ade6da I had to bend the ends inward slightly with pliers to get good retention, but they are smooth and worth the extra dollar, They are about 3/32" longer than the silver colored ones. I'm not sure about that green but I couldn't handle owning an orange rifle either.

I've found that the Bulgarian stripper clips work MUCH better. I'd keep a look out at the local fun shows.

I like it, BigBang. You did a good job, and it doesn't look bad. Not a color I'd choose for my own Mosin, but I do have a 10/22 with a Boyd's blue laminate stock.

I prefer wood to look like honest wood so the green stain look or "greenwash" look you went for leaves me cold.

As far as the stripper clips go get some 400 grit wetordry sandpaper and fold a small piece over a few times to make up a sanding pad and polish the edges of your clips with it. That'll remove the razor like burrs and let you load 'em without the need for leather gloves or the like.

I like that you said "for the first time". That means there's hope you do it again...less green. Sorry but you asked for opinions.

I refinished one of my 91-30s when the shellac started flaking off.

I prefer a more authentic look...I got rid of the flaking shellac and some stains but kept the cartouches, etc:

Dentite, I like your rifle. I have two Mosin's coming. Depending on condition, I was going to refinish something to original, just looks more authentic to me.

But as to the OP, it looks like you did a nice job and nothing wrong with doing something up the way you like.

refinish

I think the green is cool ! reminds me of the woods. I redid my German M98k that was flaking and badly stained.
I discovered a beautiful laminate stock with cartouches that I never saw before.
I think it looks better, but a true collector will scoff at what I've done.

Look's great. Nothing wrong with a little creativity. I had a freind bring me a plain wooden 10-22 stock and this is what he got back. He loved it, that's all that matter's.
