my m1a is really heavy, do you folks think would lighten it up a bit?
I sure like the look

Hate to say it, but before I followed the link I thought it was a really, really pimped up Mini-14.

The Sage EBR is great, if you need a rail system on your M-14/M-1A. Otherwise, they are unnecessarily heavy. They are, in fact, heavier than your wood stock.

oh...ok

shoot...a pimped up mini would be cheaper.
I honestly thought it would be lighter, I took the scope off mine because it was too heavy, the tripod might go next...

I just love those evil looking guns, it's a hangover from living in NY and CA for so long.
I never would have gotten into them if I hadn't been told I can't...it's all sarah brady's fault!

For what it is, the M1A isn't really that heavy, as long as you don't start hanging stuff on it.

My reaction to that monstrosity was, "well, if it wasn't heavy before, it is now".

Well, there isn't a .308 Mini, thats the reason for this.

With all the restrictions on imports etc, there are few choices for those wanting a .308 MBR, especially in some states.

if .308 is your thing, the choices are slim.
So, this is one more choice, the good old M14.

I believe the Sage is the copy of the Mike Rock stock for the M14. IIRC, the major improvement both of them have is that they freefloat the barrel and use a metal bedding that is more consistent. Supposedly the accuracy from these stocks is quite impressive. I am not really up on M1As though so I am just repeating things I read many moons ago...

I do know that something very similar to this is being offered as an alternative to the new SASS (semi-auto sniper system) that the Army wants to purchase that is based on an SR-25 (.308 AR).

:scrutiny:

It probably works just great.

It certainly looks awful. Not unlike that Socom II monstrosity from SA. Personally, I think that M1A/M14s are supposed to be "traditional" looking rifles, with standard stocks. If you want a tactical .308, everyone is coming out with an AR-10 variant now. Some might even have pistons.

Yeah, yeah, that's just my opinion. Buy what you like.

They do work great. That is the civilian version of the new SOF EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle). The SOF version has an 18" bbl and is select fire. The stock is suprisingly comfortable and weight is not bad for a 308 rifle. When I first got my hands on it I knew I had to have one for my collection. After talking to Sage at the SHOT Show, we are going to be building them.

They are VERY cool.

Edit to add, the Sage stock is the same stock that was designed by Dave Anderson at Crane. He owns the rights to that design and has licensed it out to various companies.
