I went for a walk in the woods yesterday. I decided 6 rounds of 158 grain semi-jacketed semi-wadcutters was a better option in the woods than 9 rounds of 9mm so I threaded the no-name holster I have for the Ruger on my carry belt, dropped a speed loader in my cargo pants side pocket, holstered the Speed Six and prepared to head out. It's was cool, not cold, so I donned an untucked flannel shirt as a cover garment. Even though I would be walking in the woods I wasn't hunting so I wanted to conceal to make sure I was legal. Besides, I might have to make a few stops between the woods and home. Considering my desire for concealment I chose the 2.75" Speed Six over the 4" Police Six. Some will say the 4" is a better option in the woods but carrying is all about compromise.
I wear this no-name pancake holster outside the waistband at 3:30 and it cinches up real tight against my body. Every time I wear this rig I am amazed at how easy it is to conceal this revolver. At one point in the day it was warm enough to remove my flannel shirt and even with just an untucked t-shirt (blaze orange) as a cover garment the revolver was very hard to spot.
The Six series pistols are the perfect size for carry, at least for me. It's a shame Ruger dropped this pistol from their line up. I find the GP100 just a tad too large for me to carry comfortably.
I really should carry this rig more often.
