But I'm not sure, can anyone help me? Several years ago, my husband was cleaning a garage and he found this gun. It's a Derringer Philadelphia flint lock. It looks old. The barrel is slightly rusted inside, the brass is tarnished and the wood handle has some dents in it; but other than that it seems to be in good shape aside from the trigger sticking. The serial number stamp is a bit difficult to read as it is wearing off but it is legible. It's stamped Spain and under where it says "black powder only" it has another stamp but it's almost worn off. The last three letters of the stamp say "KAR" and the first letter appears to be a "J". This is the basic description of the gun. If anyone has any helpful info about it please reply to this thread.

it sounds like its newer cuse its says black powder only meaning it was made during a time when there was smokeless and black powder. im not good with antique guns though.

No, I'm afraid you have a modern made replica. The 'Made in Spain' & 'Black Powder Only, are the dead giveaways. The other, partially worn, marking is 'JUKAR' which is the name of the Spanish company that made it. Most likely made, possibly as a kit, in the 1970s or 80s. I've never seen one in flintlock, they've all been percussion & I'm pretty sure that is what you have. On a flintlock the hammer has a screw on the top that allows the jaws to hold onto a piece of flint, a percussion has a nipple (a cone with a hole in it) screwd into the barrel that the hammer hits.

Mr. Deringer of pocket-pistol fame wasn't around during the flintlock days.
