I bought some new magazines for my 229 and took them to the range to test them today. While I was there, I decided to shoot and see what it would do on paper. I had only shot steal plates until today. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. This is 25 shots that I shot at 15 yards, and I really was not trying very hard for accuracy.

Nice! I pick up my first Sig (also a 229 (Equinox)) on Tuesday. Like you I want a .357 Sig barrel. I want a 9mm conversion barrel for it as well though.

3 calibers, one gun - gotta love that!!

If you can shoot that well with the 40 barrel, wait till you try one in 357! Might cut your group by another inch or so.

Neat little holes, man!

Mine's a .40, have a 9mm Bar-Sto coming.

Wanna drop some cash, put the LaserMax in.

I had someone PM me and ask what ammo I was using or if I was using reloads. I was using The Remington UMC Hollow Points. It was the 100 round box from Wal-Mart. I have not gotten setup to reload 40 yet. However, I cannot wait until I do because my reloads are always more accurate

I have wanted to like 40 S&W, and have owned 3 or 4 handguns in that caliber. However, this is the first gun I have been able to shoot well with this caliber. I see visions of more Sigs coming my way. :D

I plan to get the Lasermax grips next and then the 357 sig barrel. I may get the 9mm barrel, but I have not made my mind up yet on that.

I just took my .40 P229 out today for a spin...kept all rounds inside the styrofoam bullet tray (I shoot at those :)) at 10 yds rapid fire. Its an awesome pistol.

Are the Sig 229s all identical except the barrel and mags? In other words, are the slides the same thickness for the .40 and the 9mm version?

Lucky you! I am looking foward to buy a Sig P229 9mm. My question is, can i get a Sig P229 9mm with a silver slide like yours?

I have 9mm P229 with hogue wrap around grips installed. at 15 yards my sig is doing one big hole in the center of target. In general Sigs are very very acurate

CPShooter ---

If obtained in .40 S&W or 357 Sig, the two are interchangeable, barrel & mags; with a 9mm conversion barrel available.

If obtained in 9mm, none of the above holds true.

As I recall, the 9mm slide is different internally, using a breechblock like the 228. (Not sure about that.) The 229 uses a solid machined slide, and the barrels, even the 9mm, drop in to fit the 40/357 configuration.

51Cards - Do you have to purchase new mags along with a barrel(bar-sto im assuming) or do you just stuff 9mms in the stock .40/.357 mag? Is there anything else to be concerned about..like changing spring weights and things of that nature??

Everything I've heard from guys around here who've done it says that the original 40/357 mags can be used with the 9mm conversion. (Incidentally, that also means that (12) 9s can fit ... but that's a separate, knuckle-dragging legal thing ... guess it's the "honor system" :D ).

I believe a 9mm recoil spring is required. I have a LaserMax, which comes with different springs. I plan to remove the .40 spring and start with the 9mm spring. I would think that the .40 spring would be too strong for the 9mm.

Also, since the barrel blank would have to be the same outside dimensions to achieve fit and lockup, and the 9mm bore is smaller, the conversion barrel would have to weigh more. So, wimpier cartridge, heavier barrel, more inertia against a tougher spring probably equals FTE. It would seem ...
