Well the story goes like this.

A few weeks back I picked up an AR-180 from my local shop. It turns out the gun had a few issues so I returned it and ended up with some money on account. I sold a couple of guns on gunbroker that I felt I could live without and they sold pretty quickly and I ended up with a good bit of money from those sales. Combined with the money I had on account from the return of my AR-180 I decided now was as good a time as any to get an FN SCAR. My local shop had just gotten two in and I decided that one of them had my name on it.

The price wasn't too bad, a bit more expensive than a lot of the ones selling on gunbroker but I'd rather spend a little more and buy locally to support the best gun shop in town. The shop manager was nice enough to toss in a free Pmag and GG&G vertical foregrip for free.

Well I'm very excited to finally own a SCAR. I was a bit on the fence about them for a long time, they are just so darn expensive! I had to sell a few guns to get my hands on one but I needed to scale back my collection anyway, I had too many guns that I just wasn't using and it was a waste for them to just sit in the safe.

Anyway here are some pics as always:)

can you show a close up of the selector?

reason Im asking is this. A few years ago I got my hands on one at a fielding demonstation. I flipped the selector straight down to what i thought was semi and then ripped off a burst. I felt like dips**t for not knowing that straight down was auto, but the fielder asured me that this happened to about 50% of the soldiers that tried it and that they were going to change the selector so that it matched the function of the M4.

Very nice. I plan on picking up the 17 when they are CT legal and the prices come down a bit. I'm not in a rush I'll wait a year.

I got one just a while back as well...picked one up with 60 rounds through it just as SOCOM announced they were cancelling the Mk16S procurement.

I originally handled one of these at the NRA show in St Louis a couple of years ago. I wasn't impressed as I thought it was "fat" compared to my ARs. The FN rep that field stripped it for me fumbled through the process so it came across as less than intuitive. That said, sometimes I get and itch and have to scratch it. Was waiting on a 1:7 barreled RobArms XCR but they seem to have forgotten me when I found this one.

It adds to my modest FN collection (yes I'm stretching the definition a bit)

I took it to the range the other day to see if the SCAR was really more controllable than an AR as I've heard the internet commandos say. The one time I got to shoot it, it certainly didn't feel that much different than my AR. As you can see, I'm no high-speed-low-drag operator...just a regular guy shooter. In fact, from the size of my jeans, you can see I'm fairly high drag.

Links to videos below. I haven't edited them to get a back to back comparison. The basic test was...start loaded round in chamber, 3 in mag, safety on. Fire 2 hammer pairs, reload, 2 hammer pairs. Here's what I learned:

Oh, thank God!

I thought you went for some really disturbing body modification. Instead, you got a nice high-tech rifle. Good choice.:D

Yes, but does it match your shoes?

Seriously...we're color coordinating now? ;)

Ok, Seriously srsly... you know what that rifle needs? Scratches. Go shoot it and slam it around a bit. It's a weapon, not a Monet.

the scar plunge

Beautiful! I too have a modest FN collection (its all FN Mausers-commercial sporters) and love them. I just need the money to take the SCAR plunge too. A SIG 552 would work too. Great rifle! Have fun!

nwilliams, always gleaning AR-180 info when I can. Nice Scar, but I am stuck in Old School, and the early AR-15s and AR-180 still populate my shooting.

What issues did you have with the 180? If you don't mind, would you detail them?

NEVER MIND. I see your response on another thread about your 180 and it's double act. I have a short memory. I see I even responded to it in the other thread.

Thanks,
