A couple of years ago, I ordered a kit knife. I did my own scales out of deer antler. I wanted an every day carry knife for misc small jobs. I really like the knife and how it carries but there are a few problems.

1. The thumb stud is not very ergonomic. I can open it one handed but it is not as easy as it should be.

2. When putting a lot of pressure on the blade when cutting, the liner lock tends to bind up and consequently be difficult to close. It kind of gets wedged in there. It also partially closed on me once because my grip was such that the liner lock was disengaged. I don't like that much.

So, can you recommend a knife that is similar in proportion to this knife but solves the problems that I have? Here is what I want.

1. Similar in proportion to this knife.
2. Good quality steel.
3. Easy one handed opening.
4. Belt clip
5. Secure locking mechanism.

Input appreciated.

Thsi may be far cheaper than what you're looking for, but the Gerber "E-Z Out" has the most easy to open blade that I have run across and has a belt clip that actually works unlike a lot which are way too stiff to easily clip to a belt. I like the knife because I don't do well with knives that have thumb studs. The Gerber just has a cutout in the blade metal that is far easier to open with one hand.

I've used these knives for years and they have provided good service. As an Air Force flyer, they were always popular in my unit because they clipped nicely to the inside of a front leg pocket on the flight suit with just the belt clip visible. Spyderco also made a knife that was popular among my fellow flyers.

They are available in both serrated and non-serrated models. I've tried more expensive knives, but they always end up left on the dresser while the Gerber goes with me. Hope this helps.

I endorse the Gerber. I have two...one fine edge...one serrated. Very easy to open and very easy to grip under all circumstances.
