What Features Do You Require In A Pocket Knife

I would like to say I like the Buck 110, but I can't. I've actually owned one since 1974. I bought it off a guy for 20 bucks when I was in the Army. I still have the original box. First, it's too big for comfortable carry in a pocket. Second, it is uncomfortable in my hand. The corners are too sharp, but I won't modify it due to the used knife value. Third, it has a clip point blade. I just don't care for them. I like a drop point.

Depends if it's a utilitarian knife, or a self defense knife... I carry a Victorinox Explorer Swiss Army knife for all the gadgets, but a 3" blade with no lock isn't even pretending to be a defensive tool (even people in the UK can carry one). It's still perfect for anything else you could need a knife for.

For self defense, I have a Cold-Steel Ti-Lite, which does check off most of the boxes on the original post. I never use that blade for other stuff, because I want it to stay perfectly sharp at all times.

My field pocketknife, as opposed to my everyday pocketknives, is a Knives of Alaska Hunter. The blade is D2 tool steel. The knife is made in the USA. It weighs 2.1 OZ. It is wicked sharp and stays that way. Excellent shape and real handy for all of those skinning/caping chores. The only drawback is it is an inset liner lock and is NOT up to any prying type chores. I also consider it too expensive for everyday carry. I really don't want to lose it.

Yep. I still remember Tom Hanks not taking along his Swiss Army in Castaway. I told the screen that he would regret that. I have an Officers Model in my range bucket, just for pure handiness. Don't use it much, but I certainly appreciate it being there.

Preferably made with USA domestic materials but that can be challenging. The liner lock is suitable for my uses and these are my creations.

U.S. mil spec 6-4 Ti
Japan Hitachi ATS-34 blade steel
Devin Thomas, NV: mokume or damascus. I don't know where Devin sourced the brass, copper or nickel as well as the 440-C/AEB-L, 1095 or other steel components but likely USA. Tom Ferry Timascus.
Mammoth Ivory could be Alaska or Russia. Stone is from Wyoming. US made carbon fiber with what I suspect may be Toray carbon fiber weave.
Screws are product of either Canada or S. Korea.
Taps used were Brubaker, USA
Bandsaw blade to cut all this stuff up was Lenox USA.
Heat treat from Pacific Heat Treat in Sunnyvale, CA.
Then my CA based under min wage labor. LOL.

If I have to fly I pack a PRC made Gerber or similar knife that is an acceptable loss if confiscated/stolen.

I didn't realize I needed a Swiss Army Knife until I actually carried one around for a week. I was surprised at the functions I wound up using.

I made this little guy while waiting for a deer to come along. 20211106_082949.jpg I found these that are kind of cool and fit into the toothpick/tweezers spot. 51aQ2skEuaL._AC_SY1000_.jpg
Felix Immler has some great knowledge on the uses of the SAK that you wouldn't think of. It's worth checking out some of his YouTube videos
