I've been looking at a replacement 12ga. I've got my old Model 20 J.C. Higgins that's never failed me, but it's fitted for 2 3/4" only and is full choke. I'm wanting one that I can change the chokes around on for different things and will handle 3.5" magnums if need be.

The only ones that I've been able to actually hold that, I think, meet what I want.

I found a Mossberg 835 Ultimag that is all of the above in mint condition at Gander Mtn for about 350$

Also at Gander is a Benelli Nova for close to the same, but it doesn't feel right in my hands.

I haven't had a chance to hold a 535ATS, but from the pics, I like it.

What I've read about the 835 is that it is an overbored barrel, basically a 10ga barrel on a 12ga receiver. So it wouldn't be useful for slugs.

If the 535 is has the same capabilities, but will also fire slugs, then that may be what I want.

I haven't read a lot about the Nova.

If you have any suggestions on shotguns that I haven't thought about, let me know. I know I want 12ga and the capability of interchangeable chokes. I also want to be able to shoot whatever shells feel right at the time.

Thanks,
John
