Calhoun County Michigan report of 2/5/2009

N so did close to 300 other's and quite a few of us spoke to the commissioners. As the room has a capacity of 200 there were people lined up in the aisles and packed in the hall out side for over 30' from the door.

All this despite the fact that it had been aired on the radio stations that this item had been dropped from the agenda. They had hoped to stem the tide to no avail.

First off the head speaker apologized for this ever making it onto the agenda, and it had been dropped from the amended agenda. That their function was as a budgetary committee and in no way to pass resolutions or law...

Then they opened the floor to comments.....

They were asked multiple time why 12.A (5) had even made it to the agenda and just who had authored it in the first place, they would not respond, but just sat mute.

12.A (5)
"WHEREAS, present levels of gun violence in the United States are far higher than in nations which regulate gun purchase more stringently.

NOW, THEREFORE, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners support:

(1) The renewal of the ban on sale or purchase of assault weapons (making the ban permanent); and

(2) The enactment of laws at all levels of government to make it harder for those with diminished mental capacity or criminal intent firearms either legally or illegally."

For over 40 minutes person after person took the podium to speak out against such a measure, expressing outrage, logic, reason, and facts, time and time again. Vets, gun shop owner, factory workers, general laborers, teachers, retired, all articulated their displeasure.

Did I speak? How could I keep quite with this fallacy of lies, and miss truths....

I think they took the hint...

Thank-you! If it ever passed there, my county may be next!

I've got-your-back if the insanity starts over here!

The way that whole ordeal turned out makes me feel better about returning to my home state of MI. Even if jobs are a tough come by now for many, at least there's still a solid a base watching and willing to take action in response to such things. It is disappointing no one is clearly taking responsibility for advancing the pointless measure, since evidently they thought it worthy prior.

Thanks for the report gidaeon. Wish I had been there.

Calhoun County is my birthplace, and sister to the county I live in now. I never had any idea of this meeting until spotting it in an NRA article on michigangunowners.com on the day of the 5th. Where the heck to these stupid people get the idea that gun control is a good thing(?):banghead: All the facts prove them dead wrong.

I saw a show the other night about a guy with an SKS (std 5 rd mag) on a shooting spree; the narrator called it an AK-47 assault rifle capable of firing 600 rounds per minute,:what:. I suppose if it really were an AK, with a 600 round mag or drum, and had full auto capability, and a water cooled barrel, it could fire 600rpm, but this is the B.S. that non-gun smart people hear and believe.

On a side news note they are blaming in on the Albion NAACP, they pressed for it and the Chairman took responsibility for it ending up on the original agenda, he claimed to just have signed a bunch of stuff and never really looked at it.... real bad judgment, and he said it was.

Yeah, "Dropped from the agenda" items do have a way of popping up at the last minute when there is time and many have left the room.
