I checked my wife's 642 and it does not have the "lip" you are talking about. It is perfectly flush and the entire gun has absolutely no imperfections. Figures SHE would get a good one. I'd probably get a lemon.
I may steal hers and substitute the one I buy which will surely be flawed.
