I've got a BLR with an aluminum receiver. And there are some pits in the bluing on the barrel which is typical for just about any blued gun where I live on the North Pacific Coast. And difficult to avoid.
I've had good luck with parkerizing blued guns. Not as pretty as bluing but better than rust...
So there's a unique problem with these BLRs - They don't like to come apart where the barrel fastens to the receiver.
This means that I have the challenge of either trying to parkerize the barrel while attached to the black anodized aluminum, or sandblasting the whole thing and re anodizing the receiver, either before or after I parkerize the barrel.
I don't know if that is even possible, without the risk of chemicals from one treatment making a mess on the treated metal of the other part.
Or find someone who can explain what removing the barrel from the receiver entails.
I might not get around to this til next year. But now is a good time to start inquiring.
Cerakote isn't out of the question either, but that's even cheaper looking than parkerizing, to me.
Thanks greatly, in advance, for suggestions.
