This past Tuesday the 22nd, was live fire at Indiana Conservation Officer Organization Youth Camp. It is also known as Camp Kelly, in memory of ICO Karl Kelly, who died in the line of duty trying to save fellow officers when a swift water rescue training turned into a real water rescue.

The 125 campers spent the day shooting rifles, pistols, shotguns, muzzle loaders, and archery. I worked as an instructor in the rifle section of the rifle/pistol station. The shooters ranged from never fired a rifle to what seamed like old pros.

The rifles the kids got to shoot were; Marlin 15, single shot bolt action, Remington bolt rifle either the 580 or 581, a magazine feed bolt repeater, Marlin 39AS, lever action, and Ruger 10/22, semi auto. The Pistols; Ruger 22/45, semi autos, Taurus 94, double action revolver, and brand spank'en new T/C contenders, single shot break action.

The day didn't go with out a hitch though, Bad shots or good shots kept shooting the clothes pin of holding the target on the snow fence. Yes snow fence, it's much better than the wire they'd used in years past. One pistol shooter took the cake though. He shot the reset rope in two, for the steel targets they were useing.

At the end of the day rifle/pistol had went through nearly 10,000 round of .22LR. :D
