Have a 36 cal pistol and wondering about manufacturer and value. The only markings I can find on it are a BZ in a small box on the right side of the frame. On the cylinder there's a wrap around engraving of what looks to be a stagecoach being robbed.

Help?

It looks like a reproduction of the 1862 Pocket Navy.

BZ is the Italian date code for 2005.
I am surprised at the lack of proof marks, although you see a lot of European guns with no brand name.

1862 Pocket Navy as mentioned, same frame as the '62 police.
It looks like a Uberti (I have one) but IIRC Palmetto also made a copy of this pistol.

There are very faint Gardone & Brescia proof marks above the wedge on the right side. There will be more on the bottom of the frame just forward of the trigger guard (they may actually be under the trigger guard) and on the cylinder. There may also be a manufacturer's logo near the serial numbers on the bottom of the frame, or under the loading lever on the bottom barrel flat near the lever hinge. The cylinder engraving is typical of many original and replica Colts and does not help identify the piece or the manufacturer.

I don't believe Palmetto made any revolvers in 2005.

And yes, it's a 1862 Pocket Navy.

Navy Arms inported a lot of blackpowder replicas from various Italian makers to sell under their Navy Arms brand, same with Dixie Gun Works. These would have Italian proof marks, but generally no manufacturer's name stamped on them.

Uberti is the only one making Pocket anythings these days. Unusual that it doesn't have any other markings.

It's a Pocket Navy and was/is made by Uberti.

One can buy new ones for $283 at Texas Jacks. Used in VGC about $200.

MORE******** Found some markings peeking out from under the trigger guard assy. Removed it and found this.

Those are the proof marks we thought should be there. Missing is the makers mark. I have two Pocket Police revolvers, one from 2003 the other from 2007, both are marked "...36 CALIBER BLACKPOWDER ONLY A. UBERTI ITALY... " This is found on the barrel, ubder the loading lever. Other Ubertis are marked "...A UBERTI & C ITALY... " on the frame (this from revovlers built in the 1980s. An earlier mark is what appears to be the muzzle of an octagonal barrel with the capital letter U inside it. An even earlier mark is merely the script letters "...G&U... " I am not aware of other marks used by Uberti. I am aware of a few pieces from Uberti that are not marked with his logo.

No matter what, enjoy that revolver!

Value is merely what someone is willing to pay for a particular piece. Book values are generally out of date or out of touch.

Are those cobwebs, between the barrel and cylinder, in the first pic?

OK. Marked "cal .36 black powder only made in Italy" under the reloading lever. No other distinguishing marks.

Thanks for your help.

No cobwebs................

Tom
