1851 Repro. ID

[Shotgun Willy]

I went to the gun show today and at the first table I came to was a brass framed .36 cal 1851. Exactly what I've been wanting. I'm trying to figure out who made it though. So far I've ID'd the markings for the Italian proof houses, and the year of manufacture AH (1981).

On the barrel--
Left side: Made in Italy
Right side: Black powder only
Top: 1851 old model .36 caliber navy revolver
Bottom: blank

Stamped into the brass on the bottom of the grip is a PR, which overlap. The cylinder is engraved and has 'Patent N' on it.

Where the barrel joins the frame on bottom there are matching serial #'s. Above the number on the barrel is stamped the letter C.

Frankly I'm stumped. I can't find any of the normal makers marks on it.

Anybody got a clue?

I've emailed a request for any information about whether these could be the initials of this Italian gunsmithing outfit which is listed as:

PATRO di Palama Roberto

Verdello 1976

Also, many Italian 1851 reveolvers were imported by Richland Arms of Michigan during that time period, and there were some smaller Italian gunsmithing outfits building and assembling C&B revolvers back then.

I actually gave him $105 for it. I know it seems like too much, but it's in really good shape and I can't find anything wrong with it other than a few insignificant cosmetic things. Timing and fit are both good. I can hardly wait until I can find the lead for it. Well, let me take that back, I found the lead at Bass Pro shop, they wanted $14.99 for 100. I. Don't. Think. So. Sportsmans Warehouse carries the lead for $8.99, but they're out, so I just have to wait a little while. In the meantime the search continues.

Shot gun, when you get your gear together. Come online and ask for the primer on shooting it. We had a recent poster that took the gun from the box and went shooting. He came back from the range and I bet you could have bought him a few beers and ended up buying the gun cheap. The problems he had were all due to too little information prior to shooting. The forum was able to straighten him out with knowledge that we take for granted.

On the thread i started. colt original script instructions. Print it out. Read it and go by it. then ask away on the question. i know i sure had a bunch. you guys all remember that though.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes. This isn't my first, just my first 1851. My first was last spring when I bought a Pietta 1860, love that gun, but it needs a stronger hammer spring. Then this fall I got a sweet deal on a 1973 Euroarms 1858 with a conversion cylinder. I'm still trying to figure out if I want to reload with APP, Pyrodex, or maybe Unique. The biggest problem there, is that all the local CAS shooters have bought up all the stinkin' lead in town.:banghead:
