Hi everyone. I`m Alvaro from Lima-Peru so i m sorry about my bad english and hope you will understand me well. I have a Smith & Wesson 32 Long CTG revolver. I m trying to get some information on what model is this, and when this revolver was made.
Serial#: 9753XX Made in Springfield, Ma.
Its a 4" barrel and 6 round cylinder Revolver.
There`s a "Smith & Wesson" logo on left side of barrel and "32 Long CTG" on right side. There are 4 screws on the right side of the gun (one of them on the wood handle center).
There is a number ( 623XX ) engraved on the hinge for the chamber when opened. There is also a "B" and "4" engraved above this number.
It has a square butt.

I will appreciate any help on this.

Saludos.

Alvaro - welcome to the forum.

I tried to find that serial number in the ranges listed in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wessson for the various .32 S&W caliber revolvers and had no luck, but perhaps I am overlooking something. Would you check your number again and post back? Please be sure to include any letter prefix on the butt where the serial number is, the only possible match I could see with your serial number would be a post-war .32 Military & Police, but such would have a C or S prefix.

Photos, if possible, would help, and please describe any other markings, patent dates, etc. Also, does it have a screw in front of the trigger guard?
Remove the grips and tell us how many screws are on that side of the revolver.

Hi Will5A1. Thaks for your answer. Yes, you are right about the letter prefix. There was a mistake in the serial number. The real serial numer is S-975316. Also, there are some patent numbers engraved on top of the barrel.

Also i think there is a hidden flat screw under the grip but im not 100% sure, i will remove the grip to confirm this.
Here are some pictures that will help you.

Thank you very much for your time.

It is a .32 Military & Police, and there were only about 4800 of these produced in the postwar period according to the SCSW, your's would date to 1947-1948 I beleive. This revolver is a K frame, or mid size frame, and it is (and was) more commonly used for .38 caliber revolvers.

It you are interested you can, for $30, "letter" the gun - S&W will provide a factory letter giving general info about the model, and specific info when yours was shipped from the factory and where it was shipped to. The S&W websire has a request form you can print out and use or you can describe it in a letter sent to Smith & Wesson, Attn: Mr. Roy Jinks, 2100 Roosevelt Ave, Springfield, MA, 01102-2208.

If you were in the states I'd try to buy it off of you - to a lot of Smith collectors that is a very desireable revolver, thanks for posting it. When you remove the grips you may well find the serial number on one, probably the right one.
