SANDPOINT -- A Ponderay man who lost his life in a fatal hunting accident in Avery over the weekend was remembered as a supportive, loving husband and father who would give anyone the shirt off his back without question.
Details are still unknown following the death of Steven Wayne Seppala, 43, whose body Shoshone County Sheriff Office said was found late Saturday afternoon in the Avery area.

After receiving a call at 4:45 p.m. about a hunter who had been fatally wounded, Shoshone County Sheriff's Chuck Reynalds, Captain John Koziuk, Cpl. Darrell Braaten and U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement officer Chuck Silvas located Seppala's body near Road 217 in an area near Roundtop Mountain.

Seppala was in the area hunting with his family over the weekend. When he did not return to the camp on Saturday with the rest of the hunt group, the family called sheriff's deputies to the scene where they found his body on Saturday.

"We did everything we could," Koziuk said. "We found him in a dense area on Roundtop Mountain."

Seppala was not wearing hunter's orange at the time of the incident.

"What a nice, nice man he was," said Leneke Horton of Sandpoint, who first met Seppala 2 1/2 years ago when their daughters played on a traveling volleyball team. "He was always happy-go-lucky, and he would go out of his way to do anything for you because that was the kind of man he was."

Horton remembered how upbeat and positive he was, especially how he was always cheering for his daughter and the team she played for.

"You would go to these games and sit there sometimes from 7 a.m. to almost midnight, and he was always encouraging the girls wherever they played," she said. "He never had a down word to say to anyone about anything. He was just a terrific man. My heart goes out to his wife, Mary, and his family."

Seppala's body was transported to the Shoshone Funeral Home in Kellogg where an autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon. His death is under investigation by Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. No other details were available.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Koziuk at the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office at 556-1114.

We should all know exactly what we are shooting at.
Know and think what is behind what we are shooting at before we press the trigger.
To never use our rifle scope to look at something we do not want to Kill.

So far as I know I have not done this to others, but I have been down range of the close bullet 3 times now.

I am sorry for this man and I hope his family can recover from not having him around.
