that's a heckuva barrel. any idea what it is?

Looks like something with an integral supressor with the front nut taken off, or really deep crown. Probably in the M40 family.

I think you are being deceived by camera angle and foreshortening. It is a heavy barrelled sniper rifle of some sort, maybe the guy in cammies is really in the Army.

maybe the guy in cammies is really in the Army.

Marines. He's got the desert Digi-Cam and the brownish OTV vest they wear. (And the photo's title includes "marine_sniper".) I'm not sure on the rifle. I'm going to guess it's either an M40A3 or an M24 SWS with some kind of McMillan stock.

so what caliber is it? and is the barrel that awkward or is it the camera angle or something?

thats just the angle... and the marines dont use the m24 thats the army sniper rifle... marines is a m40a3 a mcmillan a4 stock and a really heavy shillen barrel its probably just the angle thats making that barrel look funny... and it looks like hes doin what hes supposed to be doing up on that roof there or getting ready...

yeah thats some type of mcmillan looks like a a-4 to me... i mean makes sense m40a3... i was jsut saying that the m-24 is the designated sniper rifle for the Army...
