This idea has percolated for a month, and I'm looking to kick it off in a week or two.

I'm thinking to run an art contest on another forum, with the theme being "Guns in Graphic Novels: Edwardian Era" or something like that.

The rules would go something like this:

-B&W drawing of a single human character

-Character must be armed with a firearm, and weapon and all clothing/props must be from the Edwardian Era (1901-1936). Unsual tyle and eccentricities are allowed, so long as they would have been conceivably possible (though controversial) in the Edwardian era, such as tattoos, etc.

I'm thinking to award prizes in three categories. Not sure what the first two will be (and am soliciting suggestions), but here's my idea for #3:

#3: Best anachronistic historical/cultural allusion. Best example I can come up with would be re-drawing Pvt Joker from Full Metal Jacket as a 1930s Marine in Nicaragua, still with the torn clothing, writing on helmet, etc. "NO BLOOD FOR BANANAS"?

If anyone has ideas on how to make this contest better
-clearer rules
-better and catchier title
-contest categories

... that would be outstanding. I'll come back to THR and post the winners in a few weeks if this goes through. Prizes will most likely be little 5" utility knives from www.anzaknives.com, or maybe Douk-Douks.

Further, if anyone has cool Edwardian photographs of armed folks, I can use those as inspiration. Here's one I like: US Marines put a stomping on the original Sandanistas, 1932.
