I purchased a Lee Loader kit and have begun hand loading .223. All seems well so far, except...

When I mount a shell in the holder and tighten it on to the lock stud (mounted to chuck in drill ) The shell Holder will work itself loose. Mostly while I am trimming the case with Lee cutter and Lee case length gauge.

Doe anybody have a tip or trick that will help the case stay in the holder?

I trim all my cases the same way you describe and don't really have that problem. Hate to ask the obvious, but you are running the drill foreward (clockwise as viewed from the rear of the drill) right?

I do tighten them down pretty good also, but just with my fingers.

I will try that. Thanks.

fish, I do run the drill clockwise. As it seems it would not cut well if I did the opposite.

Do you have the old style aluminum shell holders? They were junk, didn't last long at all. The new ones are steel. I never have trouble holding the brass in the case spinner. Are you sure you're using the correct shell holder?

Steel and Yes, the thing is, the case length gauge does not like to thread in all the way without using pliers.

I probably put some small nicks and burrs in the length gauge that are catching the mouth of the case. The length gauge can be difficult to slide in sometimes.

I am new to this, as I have only loaded about 20 rounds so far.
