This will be a longshot, but maybe someone has an idea. Below is an overall picture in 1863 Remington pocket pistol I purchased several years ago for not much money. While shooting it this weekend I overpowered the loading ram and broke the pivot point. I tried to find the makers Mark but someone has defarbed The firearm and removed the makers Mark as well as the date code. The only thing remaining are the Italian marks that all Italian firearms made since 1954 carry. Those appear on the cylinder. I can see where the blueing has been removed and the remnants of the file that removed the makers Mark and the words for black powder only. So all we have to go on is it was made in Italy. The makers Mark that was removed is on the right hand side of the barrel flat if that helps identify this maker. Other than that there are no other marks other than the serial number which happens to be H0035XX.
I realize there isn’t much to go on but it is all I have. I’ll take a wild guess if that’s what you have. I need to replace the ramrod. So maybe one of the originals or a reproduction of the original will get me close enough. Even if I have to fit it.

Partially obliterated Italian mark on cylinder. That is the top of the letters ‘PN’

Here is the barrel flat that has been filed to remove the makers Mark and the words for black powder only. You can see the remnants of the bluing on the left side closest to the brass receiver. The rest of the bluing has been removed on this flat.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Only two makers of reproduction brass framed "63s. ASM and Pietta. CVA sold ASMs. Look just above and behind the trigger and see if there's any metal removed there, If so it's a CVA. Pietta now marks both sides of the barrel, so I'm betting on it being ASM. VTI may have parts.

Hello John M,

I think the Pietta loading lever can be fit to the A.S.M. Pocket Revolver.
I broke mine years ago & was able to get one from A.S.M.
Also I would suggest you load off the gun, there isn't much metal there.

Thanks all. I will check mine when I get home tonight. Either way it looks like VTI is my source for the replacement regardless of the maker.

Iirc it's Pietta. The ASM had a bead front sight, the Pietta had the round type pictured. Btw, both types are historically correct for the model. Remington used both depending on the individual variant.

The Pietta I had at one time had a post sight so I think Pietta could go either way.
I was originally thinking the blade sight looked kind of big in the OPs image and that it may have been added by the previous owner, but after looking again it looks like it could be the factory sight.

As it turns out, VTI doesn't have the ASM anyhow. They suggest modifying the Pietta in this case. And I do think we will have to modify it. The picture they have of the Pietta part show a narrow pivot hole and the firearm I have has a large pivot hole. So I may need to drill out for fit or find a pivot screw of the smaller diameter. If the threads were the same, I could probably use the Pietta pivot screw. I might just have to make one that fits what I have.

Thanks everyone.

I don’t know a thing about the ASM, but with the Pietta they have grossly undersized the chambers that chew off a thicker ring of lead, which is why they break there. I’ve read of a couple people state this is where their Pietta broke. If so maybe a machine shop can make one that will last. Or you could ream the chambers or sleeve the barrel so the smaller balls work. Of course you could load off the gun as suggested earlier, but for myself I want mine to work properly. I carry around enough stuff and don’t want to add a loading device.

Hello John M,

Mine was a CVA/ASM kit, no date code and no serial number.
It does have the CVA logo on the frame with "ASM BLACK POWDER ONLY MADE IN ITALY" on the right hand side of barrel.
There are no markings on the cylinder, other then my drag line.
Cylinder bore looks to be .316" - .317".
I believe the book called for a .320" ball, of which I don't have.
I tried swagging a .308" ball to fit, and that's what broke my loading lever.
Since I've picked up a .319" RB mold, but have not played with it.
When I built my Cylinder Press, I did include it in my plans.
Attached is both a shot of my Pocket Remington & my Cylinder Press.

Hope this helps, AntiqueSledMan.
