I recieved this from century. I ordered 2 tins, in 1 tin was 1954 brass cased on strippers....and inside the other tin was this. It's headstamped 1957-4 nny. and its STEEL CASED with a laquer coating. It is not on stripper clips. There is red sealant around the primer but NOT the case neck. Everyone I ask keeps telling me it is Romanian so I'll say this up front. It is YUGO ammo in the YUGO packaging. I've never seen or heard of steel cased stuff from the 1950's before. I have heard of some popping up in 70's and 80's production though. I have posted pictures of the headstamp and the boxes below.

If any of you have come across this ammo and would like to let me know how it shoots, i'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
Jason

OCJ. I haven't run across this ammo but I like puzzles. I Googled to a Serbian cyrillic alphabet site and a Serbian --> English translator site and I got this:

"nny" = ppu = PRVI PARTIZAN UZICE ~ "Foremost Partisan Uzice" which is a Serbian ammo factory in the city of Uzice. Their website says they have been making "7.9mm" ammo since 1940. ( www.prvipartizan.com/history.php )

"metak" = cartridge
"3PHOM" (ZeRNOM) = grain

The other thing I noticed is that all of the other 50's yugo has a date on the box as well...this one only has it stamped on the cartridge itself.

I have that identical ammo with a 1981 headstamp. Lacquer in primer is more lipstick orange than that violet. Shoots great.

Somebody else reported 1950's steel-cased Yugo from Century in a thread a week ago, so when I ordered my $45 case last week I specifically asked if it was brass or steel. They said brass, for sure.

I didn't want steel case Rom. for the soft primers (I've heard from a bud). And I don't want any brass Yugo 1954, lot 11- have heard of cases from that lot splitting (in that same thread a week ago- guy posted a pic).

Find out what I get this week. If it's that brass Yugo 1954, lot 11, thinking about pulling the bullets, dumping some powder and reseating. It's plinking ammo anyways.

But the steel case 80's Yugo- great cheap ammo.
