BAYTOWN, Texas -- An elderly Baytown couple was beaten and robbed during a home invasion, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Police said a man broke into the home in the 4600 block of Ironwood Drive at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday and assaulted the homeowners by hitting and kicking them several times. The husband and wife are in their 80s.
The attack and robbery lasted for several hours until the crook left with money, jewelry, a gun and the couple's car.
The wounded homeowners called Baytown police at about 2:30 a.m.
The stolen vehicle was found within an hour of the 911 call in a nearby apartment complex.
The wife was taken to a Houston-area hospital for treatment. Her condition was not released.
"You can imagine that they're traumatized and very upset over what's happened," said Detective Alan Cliburn with the Baytown Police Department. "The fact that he's already committed one crime like this and assaulted the two victims and now he's armed, we definitely want to catch this guy and get him off the street."
The victims' names were not released.
"I also have my mother, who's elderly, stay with me and I fear for her safety," said Jeannee, a neighbor. "To beat up old people, that's just insane."
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Baytown Police Department at 281-422-8371 or Crime Stoppers at 281-427-TIPS.
