Dear Friends,

Although an ethusiastic collector for many years, I will be buying my first 1911 next week. Could one of you explain what exactly is the so called "idiot mark"?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

search on my username and 'idiot mark'. There are pictures, explanation, and how to avoid it in the thread I am thinking of.

Specifically, or typically, the arc mark/scratch in the finish below the slide release (above the trigger) caused by improper installation of said slide release during installation.

I'm guilty of some small ones, I don't know how some people get the whole arch all the way down to the trigger though ...

Beware of the 1911 ... they multiply! :uhoh:

I like the one that starts at the grips and goes all the way to the top of the slide:what: :what:

:D D'oh!

That's funny...
I don't know a 1911 that didn't put at least one of these marks on at least one of their cherished pistols. Sure, you learn to avoid them, but by then it may be too late ;)
