IDPA 9mm bullet weight

May not be too light depending on oal. I have a good shooting load with 4.6 wfs, 124 RMR fmj rn bullet at 1.130 oal.

I know oal affects pressure. What does it do to velocity? Shorter oal =higher pressure=higher velocity?

A shooting buddy gave me over 4k 115 grain bullets, 8 lbs of TiteGroup, and 10k of a specific primer, so that's what I'm loading for a while. When I run out, may give the 147s a try. We use video to quantify split times and the peak recoil angle. Video is a great diagnostic tool to distinguish what you think is happening from what is really happening.
I would do the same.I'm at the point of needing to make a bullet purchase. Truth is no amount of hand wringing over recoil impulse is going to make up for the fact that I'm a novice idpa shooter who just needs more practical experience. But it sure is fun and interesting.

I appreciate all the insight you all have shared

Tony K, check out Rocky Mountain Reloading. I use their 124 fmj rn exclusively. After the shipping insurance (optional) and the High Road 5% discount it ends up $80.50 shipped for 1K fmj bullets. And they are great quality and very consistent from batch to batch.

I read about people trying different powders, used to do a bit of it myself. But now I just say why? Unless you are going for utter maximum velocity or are trying for improved accuracy after you have already selected the best bullet available, there is little reason to flip flop on pistol powder.

I'm shooting through 32 pounds of Promo with the same logic. This is my bulk shooting powder. I have others for special things but this is my go to for 9MM, 38 Spec, 45 ACP, & several rifle loads [cast].

I had planned to do that until I found a good deal on a mix of powders. $At 10-15/lb, they were tough to pass up.

I'm leaning toward RMR. I live about 2 hours away from Lewiston (where they're located). So shipping should be fast. At least faster than xtreme.

You won't be disappointed. Oh, their fmj bullets come out of Somewhere out west, Idaho I think, but it still usually only takes 3-4 days to get to me in Arkansas.

I started reloading about two years ago, just when powders were starting to become available, so I worked up loads for about 5 different powders as I could find them. I figured I could hopefully always find something to shoot that way.

RMR has a new 124gr FMF-FN that seems to shoot really well.

I am leaning more towards thier new 124gr MPR JHP for my new match load.

Nice long bearing surface.
Should also work well for Zombies if necessary.

RMR is great to do business with.

Dang Zombies! Always a problem. It's good to be prepared ; )

For the flat points, is there any advantage? I know people use swc to cut clean holes in paper. Do flat points do the same thing?

Slightly longer bearing surface usually on a FN bullet. Easier to get more consistent OALs.
The FN will cut a slightly cleaner hole than RNs but not as clean as a SWC, and OK, to me they just look cooler.:)

I do not own a 9mm, however I do work a couple pistol match's a month where we do shoot some Knock Down Steel. My observation is that 115 9mm does not knock over steel nearly as well as heavier 124/147 bullets. Just something to consider along with Recoil Impulse.

A note on powder, I like to use a bulkier powder that I can see in the case, and no chance of a Double Charge, or No Charge if you are paying attention.
Like I said above I do not load 9mm, however I load lots of 38 Special, 40 S&W, and 45acp on a 550 Dillon.
