Are there any IDPA revolver shooters on here that reload your own ammo (.38/.357) for competition? If so I am wondering if you would share your reload data.

Thanks

I use 4.4gr of Bullseye with Berry’s 158gr @ 1.525” shooting SSR (it wins wood).

Edit: I use 38 special brass for this load; however, I only shoot this load from a 357 magnum as it is .3 of a grain over the max +p loading for 38 spl (at least in the most conservative book I have).

686 w/4" barrel and a 686 w/ 2 1/2" barrel.

4.2gr Bullseye under a 158gr LSWC.

I tend to go for the long shots 25-30yds and nearly always hit 0's.

4.6 gr W231 and a 158 gr roundnose; Bear Creek moly coated by preference. You could probably get by with less but my CH Autochamp powder measure takes fixed bushings and that is as close as I can get.

When I use my revolver, (4" 686) I use either a 158 Gr. LSWC or LRN powered by 3.9 Gr. of WW 231.

For USPSA I have used the following in my 6" Taurus 66S (357 magnum):

- 4.5 grains of Bullseye under a 125 grain JSP with good success. I haven't chrono'd it but reckon it'd
make minor easily.

- 5.7 grains of Unique under a 125 grain JSP - switched to Bullseye for economy and cleanliness.

My current load for the GP100 is a 158gr plated flat-point bullet and 4.5gr of Titegroup in a magnum case. Very clean and accurate.

This gives me 890 fps which is a little hotter than I need for IDPA, but going any lighter feels like cheating.

I've used all kinds of loads. Lately, it has been 6.5grs Green Dot with a Lyman 358439 lswc of 173grs in nickel FC +P+ 38spl. cases and Wolf Primers. These are soldly in the +P+ range and shoot very well.

I have also used magnum brass and a 160gr LRN bullet over 7.0 of Unique.

Using target loads in action sports takes all the fun out of it for me. I shoot bullseye when I want to shoot mouse loads.

I'm new at IDPA and I'm thinking of trying my revolver next time out...but I thought you needed to make major power factr (165). I was doing load development and trying for around 1050 fps with 158 gr LSWC. Can you shoot minor with revolver? (that would be cool)

Stock Service Revolver with speedloaders requires only "minor" power factor 125,000+. Full power .38 Special is fine.

Enhanced Service Revolver with moon clips requires "major" power factor 165,000+. Usually near-hardball .45 ACP, some 10mm, a few .40s. I don't know what .38 Super Major would feel like in a revolver and don't want to find out. A .357 converted for and used with clips would have to make major.
