Vice President, Joe Biden is referring to his and President Obama's inclination to "act" to further restrict guns and enforce stricter gun control laws, which, if so enacted and enforced "if it saves one life", will be worth it. ="http://www.chicagonow.com/rare-chicago/2013/01/gun-control-if-it-saves-one-life/" Gun Control: "If It Saves One Life..."

As I was reading the latest copy of American Rifleman, it dawned on me while reading stories from "the armed citizen", that the phrase "If It Saves One Life" is used an awful lot by those opposed to guns to justify their attempts to muzzle our rights. I think the NRA should, somehow, gets stories like these out into the general public to show that having a gun can in fact "save one life."

Buy some airtime and produce short commercials based on these stories and minimize the effect of this phrase that the population often gets bombarded with whenever a tragedy occurs and politicians feel obligated to do something.

Yes Virginia, guns can save lives!

Moderator - can you fix the link above

Don't know why it didn't show as a link. Thanks.

If it saves one life... how many will it cost?

I don't just mean any that are lost due to lack of protection from violent criminals, but the potential for civil unrest following an extensive disarmament campaign. Just look at the so-called "drug-war"..

What about the many thousands of lives that have been lost fighting to assure that these very rights stay a part of our national heritage?

It is a sham. The know it and we know it, but they are trying to reach the uninformed voter. Plain and simple they are doing what most politicians do best...............................Lie!

They already save lives every day.
In a recent discussion I had, the other person asked "if statistically there's not that many defense shootings (as compared to gang or drug activity), call it 1%, maybe it isn't that important after all?"
I leaned in and said "I bet it was pretty darn important to that 1% wasn't it?"

"if it saves one life" has to be the worst policy justification I have every heard.

thinking of the plethora of duties and gadgets that if removed, would potentially "save one life".

gag me

:banghead:

"It's for the children" is probably a close second. These are all variations of the "When Fascism comes to America is will be holding a cross and waving an American flag" theme. We would do well to take note of who and what groups rely most heavily on these emotional pleas.

Edit to add: also (say it with me now) "the greater good" :D

It would clearly save many, MANY more than one life if all cars were rigged not to exceed the speed limit (say, 55-65 MPH).

I dare say this would save a lot more lives than any anti-gun legislation (assuming, for a moment, that anti-gun legislation works, which we know it doesn't...).

If even one life matters, I wonder why the leftists aren't working on pushing this notion?

Get rid of your guns.
The life you save, may be the one that breaks into your house and rapes your daughter.

Not a very good campaign slogan, but closer to the truth than the drivel that spews from their mouths daily.

Ban all cars.
Ban all airplanes.
Ban all motocycles.
Ban all cellphones
Ban all doctors (medical malpractice takes more lives than all of the above)

It it saves one life, it will be worth it.

Yeah, when the "saves one life" argument fails, they fall back on "for the greater good".

It's an insoluble paradox of tenets, but somehow they've convinced ~50% of the country with them.

If It Saves Just One Life...

This line always irks me.

Possible responses to idiots that spout this garbage:

1) Would you work an extra 20 hours a week, every week, at your job, if it saved just one life?

2) Would you pay for 24 hour protection for someone, for life, if it ...

3) Would you require that everyone has a bodyguard for life , if it saves just ...

4) Would you suggest that driving be outlawed, if it ...

5) Would you suggest that every single swimming pool and swimming hole have a full time life guard, if it saves ...

6) Would you suggest that all sugary drinks be outlawed, if it ...

I prefer to have the protection of my and my family's life in my own hands. It's mind boggling that people actually believe that they (the quacks in Washington) actually have public safety as a driving force for gun control. And gun control is really the shortcut to TOTAL control. Anyone who actually takes 5 minutes to sit down with an educated, law abiding gun owner, would see crystal clearly that it's ONLY about control and power. The more they have, the less we have. But society has degenerated to the point that people want someone to take care of them as opposed to taking care of themselves. And it's very hard to compete with a government that says "We want you to be safe, and we want to give you free stuff like a cellphone and even a paycheck and healthcare."

If you look at all the previous "great societies" of the past that have imploded and crumbled such as the Romans, it's very apparent that the United States is following the same path. It's not to late to bring us out of this, but it will most likely take something that wipes out the federal government's ability to "take care" of the citizens. But as long as we keep electing "politicians" and don't hold them accountable for their lies, and as long as we continue to allow them to raise our taxes over and over, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Our citizens have forgotten how to think for ourselves. And even those that do think for themselves feel somewhat powerless to change anything.

My last thought is something that we should tell anyone who likes free stuff from the government. "A government that is big enough to give us everything, is big enough to take it all away."

I GUARANTEE you that torture of suspects would save MORE than one life.

I suspect that more than a few gun control advocates would go for THAT too...

Exactly Tag.....stupid stupid motto. That is a total Bloomberg philosophy,

Save a life, kill freedom.....

If enforcing current gun laws (like prosecuting people who falsify information on a 4473) would SAVE ONE LIFE... why hasn't the federal government been doing it, Mr Vice President?

"Don't have the manpower" sounds to me suspiciously like "Never made it a priority". Do it for the kids, Mr Biden.

If it saves one life....

Twenty-six were taken at Sandy Hook. If that school had not been a gun-free zone, where the law-abiding are defenseless against an armed mad man--who doesn't a tinker's doodle about a gun-free zone--many more more than one life could have been saved. A trained and willing teacher with a CCW could have downed the shooter long before he was able to kill so many. Many such teachers might have been able to lower the body count to one.

Well, Joe? Barrack? Diane? What about it?

If it saves just one life....

But I know the answer, the real, unspoken, "don't tell them that" answer. Gun control isn't about saving lives--it's about enslaving them. Anyone remember Patrick Henry?

Wonder how many lives Fast and Furious cost? Why hasn't that cover up become Obama's Watergate?

I saw someone comment that everything Obama has done is great and that he is the most unjustly vilified President ever....sad how blind that person is

There's a difference between blind and willfully ignorant. One condition is excusable....

If the libs spew "if it saves one life"...............how come all of them are usually pro choice? chris3
