If Mr Hussein gets the presidency and elects to enact a new gun ban (call it a carbon copy of the Clinton ban), does that mean that owners of ARs and AKs have to turn them in, or can they keep then and not purchase anymore??? Would it be smart to invest in a FAL now before the legal wall gets built?? Whats the story? I was not exposed to firearms last time then ban was in effect.

Depends on what the law says. Likely, if something does pass it'll be a "no new firearms of certain type or specific magazines" to be sold.

If you don't have one now...

I "survived" the last ban and saw prices skyrocket and availability dwindle. Of course, they could make it a total ban, where you had to turn certain (or all) types in, but generally it's incremental.

Also watch for ammo restrictions/taxes.

You understand that it would depend on what kind of law they pass, don't you? And that would be a negotiating process, sponsors would want to ban everything and turn them in, but to get passage it would probably have to be watered down

If it is a "carbon copy" of the last law, no you didn't have to turn in anything, and you could continue to buy slightly modified AK, AR and FAL rifles.

Hey guys, just because they tell you to turn it in does not mean you have to comply.

If there is a new ban on gasoline fueled cars, would it be good to invest in a hemi?

If there's a ban on electricity, should we invest in generators?

If, if, if.... should, should, should

hint: cross the bridge IF we ever come to it. speculation is worthless. If you want a FAL, buy one. IMO, don't make purchases based off of possibilities.

First, the bill would have to come through both houses of congress before the president (whoever that might be) would have a chance to sign/veto it.

And, this bill could say pretty much anything they want it to say.

But, the last ban did not require you to get rid of banned weapons that were owned prior to the ban, and did not regulate the sale of those specific guns during the ban (in other words, a "pre-ban" AR-15 was legal for sale throughout the ban).

The likelyhood of confiscation while not impossible in the U.S. is highly unlikely. Its easier to just ban the sale of new ones and gives the image that they're doing something. Its all about perception, they know they can't fix crime this way, but its doing something and keeps the politicians in control. Same thing with all the stupid TSA hassles at the airport.

JR, no way to predict anything from your post until such legislation is finalized.

If you are worried:

1. Join the NRA, if already a member send money to the PVF and ILA and help me fight.

2. Buy all you can and stack it deep. You should have been getting ready since September 2004, go buy more.

I hope we understand that if our backs are ever against the wall, there is one group of THR soldiers for Liberty who can save us; and to that group let me say: Boys, Never Give Up Your Guns!

Why would you turn in your guns simply because the government told you to do so? Isn't that what the 2nd Amendment is all about? Protecting yourself from tyranny in government?

They can treat you like cattle but you don't have to act that way.

Buy your FAL now and fight for your freedoms when you have to.

Exactly. I don't understand the "victim" mentality of American gun-owners these days.

Obedience to government, much less an anti-gun or gun-confiscating government is not going to end up "for the people" in a positive manner. Ever.

Events in the next week or two may make it IMPOSSIBLE for there to be a "new gun ban".

No, it just means instead of making a new law, they will need a constitutional amendment. I don't think they would be against trying to do that.

The last law had a grandfather provision, and it's likely any future law would. But I think we've seen the last of the AWB. Future legislation will hit the back end. Manufacturing of key components. It will take the form of increased taxes and regulation, along with increased trade restrictions. These regulations need no congressional approval, and can be pushed through with no meaningful democratic process.
