Well, let's be fair - it's not that mentioning a thread lock is frowned upon. However, deliberately participating in a thread (either via posting IBTL inanities or by piling on in the dialog) that is known to be inappropriate and heading for a lock is very much discouraged relative to more appropriate responses (such as reporting the thread to the Mod Squad for cleanup, or even just ignoring it)...

Some folk just seem to intrinsically understand that discrimination, and sadly other folk just don't.
