Hi all,
...only one long gun, and one sidearm, in a SHTF problem what would you pick and why? Remember just one of each. Yes, I know this type of question has been around before but now that our troops strength is thin and our borders are open.....well you get the point.

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read and reply to this

What our guys carried in WWII & Korea..

The US Rifle Cal .30 M1 for the long gun

1911-A1 for the sidearm

SKS and a 1911
The SKS can be stripper clip fed, or shoot one load one. Its a proven combat rifle (just ask the North Vietnamese). The 1911 is a proven combat handgun.
or
.357 lever action rifle and .357 revolver.
Yet another duo of proven firearms.

Nobody is coming across our borders, thats just good-old-fashioned-You've-watched-Red-Dawn-one-too-many-times.

You should worry more about a terrorist attack or natural disaster causing widespread civil unrest.

Depends on the variables. Why am I leaving home? What is the terrain-urban or rural? Am I alone and without support or a supply line? Who is the enemy and how are they armed?

Exactly what ATC1man said, about the SKS and 1911. Doesn't get any better than that. (okay, well it *might*, but I own these two guns). Sure, I might grab the WASR instead of the SKS, but probably not. The 1911 can't be beat.

Of course, it depends on specifically what kind of "SHTF problem" you're talking about, because in some instances I might prefer to have a short barrelled pump shotgun than the SKS or AK, or a bolt action long rifle.

Well lets see, my Beowolf and a 1911 come to mind but reality steps in and answers the call. Due to weight and unknown conditions I would call up an ar10 in .308 and my GLOCK 21 in .45 . I would at least in my mind be well armed. Two rounds that can be found anywhere in the USA, and both are know to be effective on a variety of targets. These would be my choices, what do you think?

I'd grab the Garand and the Sig P226 in 9mm.

I don't have a 1911...yet...or I would probably grab that. However, I'm comfortable with 9mm and it's available everywhere.

I would take

Am M14 and a 1911 . If I had to use them in combat, I wouldn't want the enemy medics to have to fool around with a half killed sucker.

A LeMat pistol and a Brown Bess! because I think I could do much better than the previous users. :neener: :D :neener:

Second choice would be a Winchester 94 in .30-30 and a 1911 because thats what I have. Thats what I'm familiar with.

Perhaps a better question would be: "What could you preposition for later use and where could you put it?"

You do not have to take it with you if it is already there. ;)

M1A and a Glock 17, plenty of ammo laying around for both, and nothing says "dead zombies" like 7.62x51mm.
