This is a additional thread out of the "What would be YOUR militia rifle. After a good discussion of what would make a good national militia weapon, it was pointed out that the historical militia was based off people bringing their own arms.

Then it was pointed out that it would be a good thread to see what people would bring in a self defense situation.

So..... :evil:


lets make a assumption that the government embraces the concept of a citizen militia for active defense, and for whatever reason, there has been a call to muster the local citizen militia, (the size of units will be to the digression of the poster) but you can choose only what you can carry, what firearm that you actually own would you show up, and what and how much ammo would you bring?


well for now, the best I could muster is My CZ 550 with 40-60 rounds of Prvi Partizan and a browning as a sidearm. (guess i am stuck as a citizen sniper)
 
That's easy, My Mosin M44 w/ 150rds of Czech silvertip and my Ruger Blackhawk in .30carbine as sidearm w/ 50rds.

Course, the choice is made easier by your stipulation that it be something I currently own, and those are my only two centerfires. Also, I dunno how I'm carrying all this ammo. Guess I better wear some cargo pants. :p
 
I would probably bring an AR-15 A2 with about ten mags, and a 9mmSig 226 with about 10 mags.
 
Primary: Remington 700 with 100 rounds



Secondary: M4 with 1 beta-mag and 10 extra mags


Backup for prim and sec: AK47 with 10 mags

I would bring the AK on a sling over my back, with as much ammo & Mags as I could carry (200rds +-). Then, I would carry a high power rifle, 8mm mauser/.3.3 or other full power surplus rifle I own, plus 100 rds +-.

The goal would be to shoot at who ever as far away as possible :what: and use the ak to try to get back home if that didnt work out (Spray and pray, their designed purpose). :evil:

I agree with the previous post in supplying any other un-armed, like minded civilians "targets" with a spare rifle to increase the probability of me getting out alive. :D
 
I would determine through research who the real enemy is. Then I would act accordingly.
 
To keep this realistic, do we have to carry the guns and ammo? If you do you can't carry three rifles...so lets try to keep it reasonable. I would have my AR with the three magazines I have and I would buy more if I were really called.

My p6 would be my sidearm if I could carry one. I would have two magazines for that.
 
If I was expecting a major firefight, I would probably bring my AK with as much ammo/mags as I could reasonably carry. For some longer range sniping or for guarding vital strategic points, my K-31 or SKS.
 
For sniping: .30-40 krag 500+yards 100 rounds
.22 Westernfield bolt 1100 rounds
keeping heads down: Yugo SKS 1000 rounds
M44 500rounds
Winchester 1897 200 rounds
side arms: .44 mag Blackhawk 100 rounds
.380 Bersa 500 rounds
Ammo kept in my full frame hiking pack.
 
saiga 762.39 with mags, primary, distance shots, saiga 223 with mags, close up CZ 75, multiple mags, back up side arm, ruger 22/45 stainless long bbl, with at least a brick of ammo.
 
I'd bring my baby eagle with two magazines (all that I have), and the rest of the ammo (700 rds) in a duffle bag. I'd also bring either my 870 with ~ 200 rounds or my 30-30 with 150 rounds. I would bring my Mosin instead but I don't have any ammo to go with it.
 
I actually gave this some thought when I purchased my last two firearms.

My justification for both was that I'm a civilian, I need an accurate rifle, and a good defensive handgun, both in popular calibers. I chose the .223 and the .45 ACP.

My .223 is a CZ 527 American, because I'd be in stealth mode, just trying to stay away from the bad guys, but capable of taking long shots for defensive and survival issues. We also have a coyote problem here, so that was my other justification.

If things got ugly and up close, I chose a 1911 Mil-spec. It would be ultimate last ditch, as I'm no match for a small group of trained younger soldiers.

I cast bullets for the .45, and reload for both the .223 and .45, to allow for ammo availability.
 
For fire superiority or just scaring the hell out of the enemies, my mosins with about 2500 rounds of ammo. For my primary i guess would be my norinco sks but i still need to get more ammo for it. Then i'd have my sidearm m1917 S & W revolver with around 100 rounds of ammo. Of course i couldn't be carrying all of this but this is the stuff i would take.
 
Ok, since this is just unrealistic now, I will take an f-250 fill the bed with all of my ammo, my friends 80 some mosins, 20 mausers, all his sks's, all of his thousands of rounds. Then carry my AR, and p6 while on top of the truck. When things are just starting, I will shoot from hundreds of yards with my 700, and then open up with sks's, my AR, and mosins.
 
The defense

It would have to be an AR-15 in 223 and my 40 cal. Lets all face it if it gets down to it we all need a military ammo compatable rifle and a good side arm. In an actual defense of our nation we would all need to be able to have ammo that we could get lots of and parts for our weapons. The military weapons of use are all pretty much 223 and 7.62 NATO (308). I am betting that there will be lots of this ammo around and after we get organized the groups will be looking for standardization.
 
either my ishy 2a enfield with about 140 rounds or my .30-30 and the same number of bullets

as a sidearm .40s&w glock with about 50 rounds (hehe got black talons in it at the moment)
 
Me being called upon to defend my town means the SHTF.

Thereby, refer to any previous thread on SHTF gun scenarios.

But, for argument's sake, lemme think...

Howa 1500 .30-'06 with 3x9x50 scope (my deer rifle) and maybe 100 rounds

WASR with as many loaded mags as I could carry, probably 10, give or take

P226 .40 with several mags

Maybe a .38spl J frame as a holdout piece
