Igman Ammo?

I called and talked to them today. They wouldn't sell me one box. I wanted to chrono it and give a report. :D

I have a box of Igman .243 somewhere that hasn't been shot, it looks good though.

If I actually needed some more 9mm I wouldn't hesitate to order any. Almost half the price of White Box. Actually I never buy White Box for target ammo, it's too expensive for what you get and loaded weakly, but tons of people love it. To each his own.

I took a rifle class at a gun school and the guy to my left was shooting Igman ammo and so was the guy that came with him. He said it was good cheap ammo and said that he also uses the Igman 9mm in his Uzi. He says it runs like a top in his Uzi on full auto. They fired probably 800 or so rounds of it a piece over that four day period, so I would say he gave it a good test.

I bought a case last Friday. I haven't tried any yet, probably will on Monday. I am a regular at AIM, everyone I have spoke with there all say this is top notch. I believe them cause they have always been truthful with me about anything I have asked in the past.

do you live close enough to pick your stuff up there? that's how i do it and they were super nice folks when i went to pick the stuff up. so i will definatly continue business with them. especially since they are 10 minutes from my house.

i wish i could say the same experience with Southern Ohio Gun.

this is the only picture i can find. not much detail though

"Would someone post the headstamp so I know it is not A-merc like "Hotshot" pistol ammo."

???

Hotshot ammunition IS Igman ammunition, not A-merc, it is simply re-packaged by Century Arms International.

Not Hotshot pistol ammo. I have the ammo in boxes with A-merc headstamps to prove it. Century also put out a warning letter from American ammunition regarding packaging the wrong caliber in some boxes. They sent me the letter since i had purchased Hotshot.
As I understand it, Hotshot Rifle ammo is European. I'm worried about Igman pistol ammo and want to make sure it is not A-merc.

I just bought some Igmann 6.5x55 Swede. Looks great, havent had a chance to shoot it yet. The ammo is very uniform, with OALs entirely identical throughout the entire box.

"Not Hotshot pistol ammo. I have the ammo in boxes with A-merc headstamps to prove it."

Then apparently Century is using several sources for the Hotshot brand pistol ammo. The boxes of the 9mm I tried were marked "Made in Bosnia-Herzegovina", had the red crayon/lipstick-colored sealant around the primers like the Igman ammunition pictured above, and while I do not remember the headstamp, I know it was not "A-merc" because I would have been pissed if it had. The Hotshot ammo I fired was of far better quality than A-merc, at least it was consistent and seemed to have a real FMJ bullet, not a copper-coated bullet like A-merc garbage.

The boxes you have, where does the box say the ammo was made, out of curiousity?

The Box says...

HOTSHOT
.32 AUTO
71 grain completely copper coated bullet
Made in U.S.A.
Distributed by Century International Arms, Inc.

I would not have bought it if I knew it was "American Ammunition." But it does provide good failure drill practice with my P32. The pistol has never jammed with Winchester, so I was not able to practice clearing jams until I bought this ammo.
I would like to hear a review of the Igman ammo as $100 per thousand is a good deal.

No4mk1,

Have you had any failure to fires yet? Please let me know. I ordered 300 rounds of American .380 before I found out all the horror stories. I'm planning to hit the range as soon as it arrives, but I would like to know what to expect.

Thanks.

I checked out the Hotshot ammo at the Puyallup Gunshow last weekend.
ALL of the handgun ammo that was marked Made in USA on the box was indeed headstamped A-MERC.

It would seem that they are using American for whatever calibers they can't find to import. It makes me doubt the quality of whatever ammo they are selling under the hotshot name. Since I can buy other brands locally at a better price I willl just steer clear of all Hotshot.

Don't do it. Last weekend i was shooting with fslflint. We had 1 box of igman/hotshot .243 First round out of the box must have been a double load, kicked like a mule and split the case. took 20 minutes to remove the ruptured case from the chamber. 0Good thing FSLflints rifle is built like a tank. We just threw away the rest of the box.

After that experiance, i wouldn't buy igman/hotshot ammo.

hey, when the first one out of the box grenades, i'm not inclined to try the rest of the box. Your milage may vary.

The guys on glock talk did have a point though, for $110-120 (depending on location) you can have 1000 rounds from wally world. That's probably as good of a deal as the igman after shipping. And it's all american made.

well considering AIM is the same distance to my house than the closest wally world! i am going to give it a try. i am not brand loyal by any means for target ammo. so i will probably switch between, White Box, Blazer, S&B, and Igman!

Lobotomy Boy-
I have had a few minor failures to extract and eject with the ammo. Nothing requiring any significant work to clear. As far as Igman 9mm, I havn't heard a bad review yet, so I might try it, but Winchester is about the same price and I will use US made ammo if all else is equal.

Thanks No4Mk1. Today I shot up 200 of the 300 rounds of A-merc I bought without a single failure to fire or failure to eject. Although I didn't have any failures, I did notice that the brass was a bit dimpled on some of the rounds. I think next time I am going to try some of that French brass, Beloit and something or other. I've bought it before at Burnsville Pistol Range and had good luck with it. It's almost as cheap as the A-merc stuff.

I wish you had PM'd this to me in case I didn't come back to this thread. :/

So I'm totally confused now. Igman is or is not the same as Hotshot? Igman rifle ammo is european or not? Igman sells some ammo here under its name and makes other ammo of its own and imports it???? Basically what I can gather is Igman 9mm *good* unless it's got an American headstamp and Igman .243 = *kaboom*

Must be nice. :D I'd try to get a part time job there. :D :D :D (not Walmart)

Hope to hear a range report from you on the Igman 9mm. If it's made to NATO specs (military pressure, water sealed) it would be a better buy than Whitebox. I don't even like to use wimpy American made ammo (like WWB) for target shooting.

WonderNine,

Hotshot is the brand name distributed by Century Arms. They don't make it they just repackage it.
Right now the 9mm seems to be Igman. If that supply dries up or the cost rises it could very well become some other brand in the same box.
So each box of hotshot ammo would have to be judged on it own merit since the actual ammo in each box could be different.

What worries me is that no one seems to know if the repackaged surplus Hotshot is top shelf or if it's seconds.
I'd have no reservations about using Igman ammo in the original packaging.

I looked at some at the Monroe Gunshow yesterday and the calibers that aren't available as surplus or imports all were American Ammo.
