I hate to do this, and my timing is probably lousy, but bills are bills and sacrifices must be made.

I have a very fine M1 in CMP "collector grade" flavor, with the box, certificate, manual and all that jazz.

I fired it about 60 times at a local JCG match. Its very tight and accurate.

I bought it in '04 or '05 I think for $1400, back when I was actually making money.

Who knows what the value might be for this rifle?

Other sources have mentioned something on the order of $3,500...

I can't find enough of these out on the InterWebs to get a sense for what folks might be paying...

I would guess around $1500.

Most want a shooter grade which cost less. You would need to find someone that wants to add an IHC in this SN range and condition. It also makes a difference whether or not the IHC is a gap letter or not.

put it out for auction and see what it's worth. Gunbroker is free to list though the CMP auction site would be good too. Pretty much you want to make sure you are advertising to a Garand collector because the regular shooter just wants a service grade garand from the CMP for $500.

Go sell it for $6,000 if you like, I'd love to hear you completed that transaction.

I think the stuff on the CMP auctions is overpriced by geeks who want bragging rights to buying overpriced stuff.

If you really want to look at generally overpriced but well sold items, go to Scott Duff's website. I think it is www.scottduff.com or something.

He generally sell for top prices, has great quality and does it for a commision. He seems to get a lot of traffic from serious Garand shoppers.

I may do that. I'll have to look into the CMP auction site. I thought that was only used by the CMP for their rifles, but don't know for sure.

I generally try to ask THR folk their opinions about gun related items/issues, as I respect the breadth and depth of wisdom that many posters have displayed over the years.

I love my service grades especially the Win I added an Amega mount and Burris LER scope to. Whacks 'em all day long...

The Collector grade needs to go home with someone who really needs it, and has the cash to buy it. I don't like having safe queens and I'm not a collector.

The only time I shot it, there was a collective gasp on the line. I don't really get that...
