All Illinois gun owners are invited to join in Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) in Springfield on March 14, 2007. This is an annual event where the members directly lobby their representatives in the Illinois House and Senate. This year, the ISRA is partnering with local and internet organizations in Illinois to increase participation and make a bigger & better impression in Springfield. The other sponsoring organizations are IllinoisCarry.com, ICarry.org, CCRA/GSL. Get your local organization involved as well!

How about an HighRoad contingent.

I hope to see you all there!

Good idea, but sorry to say IL is a lost cause ( I grew up there). :banghead: They will NEVER have CCW so long as the Chicago politicians have their way with the rest of the state. IMHO, WI has a much better chance at CCW than IL. If IL is finally isolated, they might consider it. Don't hold your breath. Sorry to be Mr Negative, but I've tried talking sense to my relatives back there and it's useless. Sheep being guarded by the wolves.

Thanks, distra, that was very helpful.

I plan to be there on Lobby Day this year. I had to skip it last year, so I'm looking forward to it.

Sorry, Don. Not the most positive post, but again I've tried to convince many family members and friends to stand-up for their rights. My own brother who live in Chi'town says, "A gun will do no good for protection. If I get mugged etc. I'll never see it coming and will not have time to draw and fire.":banghead: I explained training aspect, didn't get through to him. The only one I've been able to get through to is mom. She has health problems and has realized how vulnerable she is now. Others, think Chicago nows best. Good luck, but I've given up.

Have to agree distra. Lived here 40 years. I don't see much chance of CCW in IL due mostly to the northern part of the state. Those places that need it most would quite possibly be exempted due to home rule (like Chicago). The alder-creatures in city council don't need a change in the law: They already have the right to CCW. Nice little loop hole they worked out, eh?

However, all that said, I say lobby away. Maybe I'm wrong.

Calling him that day would be better. Phone calls from those who can't attend with the attendence of those who will be there (I intend to be) will help alot. If their phone lines burn up in support of CCW and they see all these people in Gold and black it might give them pause to consider. After all they want to get re-elected.

See ya there

Driving down with the wife that day.

She is going for a committee meeting with legislators about enforcement of legislation regarding people with disabilities the same day.

Happened last year too.

I'll be the old cranky lookin' guy standing in the balcony.

Seriously, I also want to stop by my representative's office and say thank you to her and her senior staff aides for her support voting against Daley's proposed bills for the last five years.

FWIW, for all of you folks going down there, the senior staff members are the people that actually do the work, put the policy papers together for the legislators, draft their talking points on an issue, do all the research and write most of the floor speeches.

You REALLY want to get on their "good side" as much as you can and offer to become a resource for them when they are doing research or need a fact or two from a credible source with details that can be referenced.

Like the fact that there were only 4 crimes (per the FBI report) in 2005 committed with any kind of rifle in Illinois, so why the high pressure to ban something that was only used 4 times? (The real answer is to look like Daley is doing something about crime in his city instead of looking at any of the root causees of that crime).

Daley is just a cheap stage magician that needs to distract the media and public eye away from the investigations, indictments, corruption scandals and overspending on his bread and circus projects by flashing an AK-47 lookalike. Never mind the unemployement rate in Englewood or the street drug trade, we're banning evil looking guns "for the children".

On a purely personal note, two last things.

First, for the love of heaven people, if you're going, please don't be a John Kerry look alike and wear all camo with your store bought SWAT Team hat and reinforce the sterotypes the "grabbers" already have of all of us. The more we look and act like the reasonable and professional people we are, the better for our cause. A nice jacket or sport coat, with an NRA lapel pin, is always a good fashion statement.

Second, thank you again to all of you that moved out of state last year, or twenty years ago and never miss a chance to tell us how doomed we all are here. We all love hearing from you every time Illinois comes up in a thread.

When you guys visit somebody in the hospital, do you always start the conversation by pointing out how bad the illness is to your friend, tell him its absolutely terminal and point out repeatedly how if you had that illness you'd probably just kill yourself?

We'll let you know when we're all "dead" here. In the meantime some of us have decided to stay and fight this to the best of our ability. But thanks for all those positive vibes every time.

Besides, since we live in Illinois, a totally run Democrat utopia, you better hope we can find some way to forestall things here, because, based on "teaching the Republicans a lesson" last November, Democrat utopias may be springing up nationwide before too long as well.

Bring your permit issued by another state--and show the receipt for THE FEE that you sent AS WELL.

That is a good idea, I don't have reciepts but will make a list of the fees paid for all six of my non-resident permits. I live near Indiana and will also mention I know a lot of people from Indiana with CCW that avoid coming to Illinois to shop because of no CCW. I would also suggest to all holders of out of state CCW's to visit www.handgunlaw.us before lobby day. There you can enter the permits you have and it will print a map showing which states you can carry. I will print at least a couple maps to hand out. My wife probably will not attend but I will print out a map of her two permits.

I will look foreward to meeting you and I thank you for your comment in your previous post.

The good people of Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas and other states didn't get the right to carry by moving out of state. Jim.

Can't wait to meet everyone. I'm glad people are making such an effort over this now . . . . . the ISRA and gun companies paying to bus gun owners to the capital to lobby legislators? Anti-gunners do that stuff, we just complain about it.

Well, until now. I hope it pays off!

Illinois is the greatest lost cause in the history of man. I've already told my wife if HB2414 is passed (which it is) I'm moving to the state of Mo before the that slime ball Gov. has the chance to sign off on it.

I've got the day off just for IGOLD...Not quite sure yet how I'm getting down there though...I'm at the far south western edge of crook county and would be willing to car pool, share a ride, split gas costs or ride a bus if I can get one near enough....mack

It looks like I'm not going to be able to make it during the day. It turns out that will be the third day of ISAT tests in my district (high-stakes testing in Illinois--this determines our funding and schools can even be shut down.) I'll either be here at school or fired.

Luckily, I only work a few minutes outside Springfield, so I can be there by about 4:00 or so. Maybe I can catch Demuzio; Hannig co-sponsors CCW bills and doesn't need me on lobby day. I'll certainly be there for the reception in the evening.

An open letter to all gun owners in Illinois
from IGOLD Coordinator Valinda Rowe

Dear Illinois Gun Owner,

Many of you are aware of the present legislative danger we are all in. For those of you who are not aware, if Mayor Daley and the anti-gun crowd have their way Illinois gun owners will become extinct, non-existent, gone, history, no more. Mayor Daley has vowed to rid the state of guns and he makes no distinction between the illegal firearms wielded by the violent criminals and gang members of his city and those firearms owned by law-abiding, peaceful Illinois citizens.

Legislators who follow the Daley call have already used the current session of the 95th General Assembly to introduce legislation to ban our favorite sporting, hunting, and defense firearms and even more legislation to further restrict the rights of Illinois gun owners.

Every Illinois legislator needs to hear a loud and clear "no ban - no more restrictions - no compromise!" from every gun owner in the state of Illinois. Better yet they need to SEE us loud and clear in person too! Please join me in going to the state capitol on ILLINOIS GUN OWNER LOBBY DAY, Wed. March 14, 2007.

Nothing is more important at this critical time in the history of Illinois gun owners than to be seen and be heard at IGOLD. Let's unite in our opposition to the proposed gun bans, restrictions, and infringements on our rights. Let's stand firm and yield no ground to those who would take our lawful right from us.

Yes, it is a Wednesday. Yes, it is in the middle of the week. Yes, it is a work day! But it is necessary to make our presence known in Springfield while the General Assembly is also present. I encourage you - do what ever you have to do to be in Springfield for IGOLD. Bring every gun owner you know with you! Take a vacation day, take a personal day, whatever you have to do because the greater our number, the greater our voice!

An Illinois gun owner determined to protect her rights and yours,
Valinda Rowe
