Just got this response from a dealer whome I was trying to buy ammo from...very disscouraging....This DA has become too big for his britches.

Blain,
not sure about the status of your order... marlene is gone for the day.
I wanted to address your question about the ammo sales to Mass.

Several weeks ago a friend of ours(fellow ammo dealer)
got a letter from your states attorney general advising him that he had been
involved in a "Sting" operation, where they had purchased ammunition from
him mail order. he was advised that he could not lawfully sell ammunition
into mass by mail order.
in subsequent phone conversations he was told that they thought he was
probably a good person, that he had only this one incident with them, and
they would be willing to reduce the charges, and accept a civil penalty of
$5000.
my friend feels like he is being "shaken down"
when you are a small business person, a states attorney general can be very
intimidating.

we have put ammo sales to mass on hold till we find out more..
this is all very recent, and yes we should have a disclaimer on the web
site.
(will be done soon)

sorry for the aggravation.

Wasn't there something on TFL similar to this several months ago? As I recall the AG got his pee pee whacked for running a sting on unsuspecting out of state dealers.

The story I was referring to is at:

It seems that the IL AG was in blatant offense of the law when he did this and took some heat from the BATF.

Sean Cloherty

The term comes from an old Cheech and Chong routine where, after abusing the cabin boy on the pirate ship, the captain orders the offender punished. One of the suggestions besides "String him from the yardarm" and "Keelhaul him" is "Whack his pee pee".

Guess ya had ta be there.

I also never stated -- although the post was ambiguous -- that the AG in question was from MA. He was, instead, from IL. He managed to p--- off the BATF and didn't get anywhere with the sting operation as the methods he used are expressly forbidden by IL state law. Even though his methods and office took heat, he didn't end up where he should have ended up which is out on the street out of a job. Imagine that.

The visual was just too much for me tender mind.

I would like to se our AG get it right where he deserves. I wonder if MA has any law similar to Illinois.

I haven't tried to mail-order any ammo since 2001, but as far as I know it's still legal. This particular dealer is being way too paranoid if you ask me.

Just checked with my supplier down south as to whether they will ship to Mass.

He says there is a law on the books that allows them to sell to resellers [ ffl holders ] but they can not ship to others in the state as they had been doing.

He said the law had been in effect for awhile [ gave no indication on timeframe ].

Hope that helps
