Illinois CCW classes (the Utah CCW)..short notice

Due to an unexpected conflict that forced cancellation of a class in another State, I am trying to fill the dates of July 21-25 with Utah CCW classes (I already have 2 set for Dundee on the 28 and 29).

A typical class takes just about 4 hours and can be conducted "anywhere" (home, office, church etc.) as there is no range requirement.

I plan on this being the last big Illinois trip of the year, so I would like to get as many of those days with classes as possible.

If there are 6 paid attendees (and the host organizer...making 7 total or more) then the host/organizer is not charged the class fee as a "thank you" for putting it together.

The Permit is honored in about 30 States, making it a nice one to attain if you travel....if not, it is at best a political statement as Illinois (sadly) will not honor it. But, hundreds of Illini do have the Permit and it makes my heart proud to be part of that effort.

Wait a minute. I can get a Utah CCW permit without being a resident of Utah? And that permit is good in Indiana, for example? If you do have your class in Illinois, PLEASE post it!

Yes, Utah issues permits to people that do not live in Utah. It is one of the most popular permits that people acquire due to its low cost ($59), breadth of coverage (see above post..as an IL resident it would be honored in the "blue" States), duration (5 years) and low renewal rate for an additional 5 years ($10 !!)

There is one set for Gat Guns in Dundee on July 28 and again 29; I am just trying to fill more dates across the State...heck, you could host one

I just got my FOID card last week. Am going to my first gun show this week, and hope to move out of the Peoples Republic Of Chicago by the end of the year. And here I thought I was going to have to move to Indiana to get a CCW permit with reciprocity.

the Utah permit for non-Utah residents is great--I am doing just that. But make sure you allow 6-8 months for getting the permit. they are severely backlogged.

I got my Utah permit a few years back now, I'm thinking 4 . . . I don't feel like getting up to go get my wallet to check. But 4 sounds about right.


Its the most attractive non-resident permit out there right now. I got mine in an afternoon with Steve Silverman of F-R-I. You don't need to go to Utah to get it. They maintain a list of instructors who offer the classes across the nation.

If you live in a state that doesn't offer permits, or your state's permit isn't widely recognized, this is a must have for folks. Get one now, before you realize you need it for a trip, because Utah is really backlogged in issuing these. They are extremely useful permits because its so widely honored.

I figured that I wouldn't be able to carry in Illinois, I am only in the state half of the year or less. I thought I might have to change my residence to Indiana, in hopes of getting a CCW permit with some reciprocity in other states. This works great for me!
