Do any of you know if it's legal to hunt whitetail with a .45 ACP using a 1911? I've done a number of google searches but can't come up with a definite answer. I would like to bring mine along this weekend when shotgun hunting. I currently only have 230gr FMJs, I assume I would need hollow points if it were legal? As far as I can tell, if I get the right rounds I am OK. It has longer than a 4 inch barrel and is a centerfire cartridge bigger than .30. Can anyone help confirm this?

No. Semi Auto handguns are not permitted

Legal Firearms
Shotguns, loaded with slugs only, of not larger than 10 gauge nor smaller than 20 gauge, not capable of firing more than 3 consecutive slugs; or
Single or double barreled muzzleloading rifles of at least .45 caliber shooting a single projectile through a barrel of at least sixteen inches in length; or
Centerfire revolvers or centerfire single-shot handguns of .30 caliber or larger with a minimum barrel length of 4 inches.

Thanks for the quick reply! I appreciate it, but am a little disappointed at the same time. :(

I guess i should have seen it coming, it is Illinois after all. Looks like I'm sticking with the trusty ole 870. Maybe a nice .44 revolver will be in my future. I can see handgun hunting being a bigger challenge!

Yep it is now next on the list. I did have a .357 but traded for the 1911.
