Illinois Gun Shows Outrageous Prices

I have been going to gun shows now for almost 30 years. Rarely buy guns there. The prices have never been all that great and in Illinois you have the evil waiting period to consider.

OTOH, it used to be that a lot of accessories, ammo, and reloading supplies/equipment were available at decent prices. The Internet has taken over a lot of that market.

I miss the jerky guy. He had some really good jerky. Have not seen him for a couple shows now. There is another one this Sunday. I will probably go.

The ONLY good deal one may be able to get at the Gun Shows is when you find someone walking around with a gun that they want to sell themselves, and most of the time when you do see someone carrying a gun he wants to sell, then a ****ty out for the bucks grabs the fellow right away and makes him an offer. I have even seen the dealers at the door just waiting for someone to wlk in with a gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now most of the gun show have candy, jerky,dvd&VCR's coins and all kinds of junk **** except firearm related items.

Up here people go to the CMP and buy 30-06 and charge double what they pay. The last time I did go to a gun show I found a guy who sold me some 1954 LC in enblocs and a dated bandoleer for $19. It was 48 rounds. I also traded a bunch of .308 for an unopenned can of 30-06 192 rounds in enblocs and bandoleers. He had converted his Garand to a .308.

My father-in-law found a Walther P 38 for $300 with box, papers and unfired. The show before that he bought a slightly used Taurus Judge for around the same price. You can still find deals, but you have to look long and hard. Anything that looks like a 1911 is high. I saw a Rock River at the same show for $500. I saw very used Colts selling for close to retail.

I think things will get back to normal now that the buying craze has settled down.

The high prices started when CLinton made the Ban in 1994. It went downhill afterwards in a few years. Finally peak when 9 /11 changed the whole arena. We got all these scares and the world is never the same again.
