Illinois Legal Question ...

Yes, but not to Chicago or Cook County, and perhaps some other counties near Cook.

Downstate you're fine. We have no restrictions on handguns or magazine capacity....yet.

P.S. IL residents must have a valid FOID card to own or handle firearms.

Should be no problem at all. Illinois (as a state) doesn't have a law on the books regarding magazine capacity. It's a little surprising, isn't it?

How many other states require their residents to have a valid F.O.I.D. card, (Firearm Owners Identification Card?

Oops!, I'm sorry. I forgot that I live in The Peoples Republic Of Illinois, a U.S. state, (and, I use that term loosey), that refuses to acknowledge our constituional rights because we are governored under Mayor Daley's Chicago Law!

I live closer to St.Louis, Mo., Evansville, In., and Paducah, Ky., than I do Chicago, so how did I fall into
Daley's Chicago law?

I'm asking,
all Illinois residents that support our constitution and 2nd amendment rights to vote Daley's right-hand-man,
out of office and replace him with a conservitive governor that upholds our constitutional rights.

PEOPLE OF DOWNSTATE ILLINOIS...,WAKE UP! Go to the polls, let's make Illinois a FREE STATE!!!

I believe it is legal in Cook County. The Cook County AWB is only in areas that are unincorporated and that don't have their own gun laws which means they exercise home rule.

Most of Cook County's municipalities are *not* home rule.

*IF* it's going to an FFL, IIRC exceptions are on the books for them to receive and have the mag in Cook, co--for sale or transfer to exempt (mostly police) persons.

I don't know that ANYONE has EVER been charged under the Cook Co. law. And it dates back over fifteen years.

Thanks for the info. Appears legal (did some other research too, but you guys always have good input).

This is going to an FFL. Has to anyway. So long as transfer to an FFL is legal, then that's all I care about. It's up to the FFL to comply locally I suppose. I'm sure they wouldn't risk their FFL and would know the law of their area. I'd hope! :)

Cook County has a ban on high cap magazines:

Effective November 14, 2006, a Cook County gun ban Ordinance criminalizes the otherwise lawful possession of many common firearms and large capacity magazines. The law provides for imprisonment up to 6 months, fines, and confiscation and destruction of the enumerated weapons. Owners of such firearms or large capacity magazines have until February 12, 2007 to either remove the affected guns and remove any large capacity magazines from Cook County or surrender them to the police for destruction.

What firearms and magazines are affected by this county wide ban? Over 60 firearms are specifically listed as being illegal, including the deer rifle popular in many Midwest states, the SKS with a detachable magazine. Popular self defense weapons like the Mossberg 500 pump, and popular target shooting semiautomatic AR-15 are also illegal. In addition, all magazines that can hold more than 10 shells are banned.

The Ordinance specifically bans any semiautomatic shotgun that has a fixed magazine with a capacity in excess of five rounds. Since shotgun shell rounds can be obtained in sizes as short as 2 inches, the ordinance can be construed to ban all common semiautomatic shotguns.

In addition to banning over 60 enumerated firearms, the Ordinance defines certain banned firearms with catch-all definitions. One such carefully worded definition bans any semiautomatic rifle that need not have, but has the ability to accept a large capacity magazine and has,

"A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel,"
