Travelling through Illinois on my way to Arkansas. How do I transport my Glock through the Land of Lincoln without running afoul of the law?

you lock it in the trunk in accordance with FOPA and then you drive through IL without incident, not getting pulled over, not getting searched, and not screaming "I have a gun" at the top of your lungs.

if it makes you feel better to print out the FOPA wording and leave it somewhere handy, go for it ... but in reality the IL gun-detecting field seems to be down for maintenance, you won't be hassled unless you're getting your vehicle searched already, and then you'll be compliant with FOPA in the extremely unlikely event you're harassed.

You can carry an unloaded firearm in your glove box or center console, per Illinois Supreme Court ruling.

Just keep the magazine out of it.

I carry that way all the time in Illinois (about my only option here).

Doesn't take TOO long to insert a loaded magazine and make a weapon ready if you need it.

With what the previous two posters have said, you'll should have no problems.

When I was on active duty at Fort Campbell, KY, I would drive the entire state of IL pretty often to get home to WI. I never wanted to test anything, so I disassembled my G19 and put it in a locked case in either the trunk of the car or the truck box in the bed of the pickup.

I was pulled over more than I'd care to talk about, couple speeding tickets...never once searched or questioned about more than the traffic stop - even with a car full of my deer hunting orange and other equipment.

Outside of Chicago, folks are regular folks and are just like people any other place who don't have an extreme, irrational anti-gun bias.
